Skeleton clocks - are these naff?

We've just repainted our living room and cleared out a lot of the more child related things (kids both in secondary). Small house. I'm really not good at home stuff.

Anyway we have travel pictures from places we've been in the UK and black frames and I was going going to put them up on the wall behind the sofa.

One child wants a black skeleton clock in the middle. I can't quite visualise it but they seem nice online.

Other child says naff and what everyone had ages ago.

She's right a couple of our friends had them (probably why youngest likes them) in the past.

I'm juts not sure if they intrincialcally naff or nassociated with the shiny/sparkly lounge with bright patterned wall and velvet sofa territory (which is fine if people like it! I'm just trying to work out the associations!)

I love our new lounge. It's very calm and doesn't have the clutter it used to have. I can't visualise well so can't quite work out and thought I'd ask mumsnet if it's a mumsnet pet peeve or not!

Have you got a link?

Bellyblueboy · 14/09/2025 12:56

They aren’t to my taste and yes we’re very popular about 10-15 years ago. But even then I thought they were naff.

but it’s your house - style it with stuff that brings you joy.

If you like a clock and want a clock, get a clock.
If you don't don't.

Don't ask the internet what your own opinions are.

Would the skeleton clock stay up all year round?

OrigamiOwls · 14/09/2025 14:03

As in something like this OP? Or one shaped like a skeleton?

I think you should have whatever you like in your own living room, regardless of whether other people may find it naff.

That is very disappointing. I was hoping for an actual skeleton.

OP - do you like the clock? Do you want a clock on the wall? If yes, get it.

LittlePineapple · 14/09/2025 15:33

Ha an actual skeleton one would be really fun!

I absolutely will have whatever I want and not sure I even want a clock - I was just really curious as to my girls' really polarised views about something I'd never really thought about hence asking here about them!

We discuss all sorts of things on mumsnet and I've read many a thread on random house preferences so a bit surprised at some of the replies telling me to get what I like and not ask the Internet 😂 - that's kind of a given!

I didn’t mean it like that! I totally agree that you can ask what you like. But I’ve never understood why people don’t have things that they want, be it to wear or in their homes because other people might think they are unfashionable.

I don’t like the clock and I wouldn’t have a massive clock dominating my living room. I’d rather have a nice picture.

LittlePineapple · 17/09/2025 17:53

I absolutely do have things I want. But I'm not particularly fussed about the Cl lock as it was the kids with strong feelings. I don't need one as I use my phone for everything.

Then I was curious - there's lots of threads about house trends you like/don't like. Maybe I should have phrased it differently. "What do you think of big clocks" 😁.

I just popped on hoping for links to an actual skeleton clock. <eyes home made version of Weasley clock that stopped working a few months ago sadly>

LittlePineapple · 18/09/2025 07:47

Now I'd love to see a picture of a home made weasley clock.. I now want one!
