Leading on from the other thread I just wanted a quick straw poll.

I'm now paying £185pcm for a small 3 bed maisonette. It just feels so much?

I’m paying £55 per month for a one bedroom new build flat. It’s just me & my cat & well insulated, so we don’t need the heating on until it’s really cold.

Blimey!!

That's so cheap.

£118 for a 3 bed semi, family of four. I have just checked and I am £5 in debit, so I’m sure it will be going up once we start using the heating!

118 pcm, two adults in a three bed semi. I’m tight with the heating though.

£120 a month for a 2 bed flat, 2 adults and 1 toddler. Wish we could go back to the days where £20 on the electric would seem to last forever 😂

I know!

It would probably be even less if I didn’t WFH but then I’d be spending more on travel.

Woofie7 · 14/09/2025 08:57

£200 a month on electricity and £800 per quarter on oil .
that’s with octopus .
large 5 bed with hall with open ceiling . Hot Air travels up .
have it on a timer and spend much of my time in a snug which is warmed with the sun and a large rad .
in the summer our house is always cool . We will move to smaller eventually but the market for larger houses is stagnant

Lennonjingles · 14/09/2025 08:57

3 bed semi, 3 adults paying £185 gone down from £250 as DS2 moved out 6 months ago, still £450 in credit, hopefully that will see us through winter once heating is on.

Bogglem · 14/09/2025 08:57

£175 pcm - 3 bed EOT townhouse, 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 children. Our last house was closer to £300 a month!

Crunchymum · 14/09/2025 08:58

Why am I paying so much? We're 1 adult, 3 DC in top (3) floors of a maisonette?

I WFH, it I'd quite an old / draughty house but we don't have the heating on continuously or overnight. I heat one room when I WFH.

They put my prices up in July as well by £30pcm. We hadn't had the heating on in months.

I'm not even sure who to check this with? Can I change suppliers?

I must have cross posted with a few people as I can see several people who are paying a similar amount to me.

I wonder where the disparity is? Why some people pay much less in similar size properties with similar sized families?

But its reassuring to hear I'm not the only one paying so much.

I spend £80 a month on a 4-bed detached house (4 adults) and am £500 in credit so far this year thanks to solar panels and heating that runs off the electric (air source heat pump). If you are on a low income or receiving certain benefits and own your home I would urge you to look into the grants that are available for solar installations.

Firstshoes · 14/09/2025 09:03

We were paying 220 per month for both (3 bed draughty old semi) but we've just moved from Eon to Fuse. It's not a fixed DD, you just pay monthly for what you use. It's significantly cheaper so far compared to Eon but we are still keeping the same amount put aside to cover the winter bills. The standing charges on Fuse are also cheaper. I'm fixed with them for 13 months so will avoid the price cap rise.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/09/2025 09:03

£300 or so a month. We’re in a four bed detached house and we have an electric car. We’re in credit by a few hundred at the moment which will help as we get into winter. The heating won’t be on for another month or so though.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 14/09/2025 09:04

£130 DD monthly.
3 bed semi. 2 adults one works from home 4 days.

However through summer our bill has been £60. Worst of winters we sit around £160. We have heating at around 19 but not constant.

Currently have £500 credit will keep over winter , just in case and then draw out next year what we don’t use. Works for us each year.

Could it be working from home? Ours is about £186 per month and we’ve not used the heating since January, so the gas part is only about £14 for our gas hob.

but WFH there will be electricity being used every day with laptops, lights, all the cups of tea and coffee etc

littleteapot86 · 14/09/2025 09:06

We pay £200 per month for gas and electricity in a 3 bed flat (an old building with big rooms and high ceilings). It's too much in summer but not always enough in winter so it evens out.

andanotherproblem · 14/09/2025 09:06

2 bed house, two adults one child. It’s roughly 80-90 pm we haven’t used the heating since April but we do have the dryer on a lot, once we start using the heating it’s around 140 pm

RedRiverShore5 · 14/09/2025 09:06

£160 a month, retired couple

SunnyViper · 14/09/2025 09:07

£530 a month but my house is a large 7 bed farmhouse and there are 8 of us.

Lougle · 14/09/2025 09:07

So looking at last month's bill's, we used £155.21 in electricity/gas. 3 bed semi with a family of 5. But we're being charged £396 per month, so we have a credit of £2185.07, so 6 months credit at our highest usage. I really need to ask them about that.

TheCurious0range · 14/09/2025 09:07

£200 a month , 3 bed Edwardian semi. That does include underfloor heating in the bathroom and at least 8 loads of washing a week, but no tumble dryer

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/09/2025 09:08

£155 DD and monthly in the summer were about £100. It’s disgusting we live in a small terrace house, 2 young kids 2 adults- 2 TVs rarely on at the same time, don’t use a tumble dryer, no deep freeze no American fridge.

Imfat · 14/09/2025 09:09

£139 per month and £221 in credit.
2 of us in a small bungalow. Before we retired new windows, insulation, boiler, fire were fitted to hopefully help keep the bills down.

TutTutTutSigh · 14/09/2025 09:11

£200 per month, £500 in credit. Large 5 bed semi detached. I'm now thinking that's quite cheap! However there is nobody home during the work day which helps.
