What do you do if having a day at home?

just that really? We’re a busy family and don’t often have a day when we don’t need to be somewhere but it looks like today is that day. However, I don’t really know what to do. The house is clean, have planned dinner for tonight and now I can just sit but I feel guilty. I have teens who are both happy to stay in but will probably spend the day on screens if I dont intervene. I really don’t want to leave the house but not sure what to do while we’re at home!

Currently doing this. Home alone. Had a few too many wines last night. Sofa, heated blanket and tv. Still in pjs. Been so busy for months and no down time in the next few weeks. I want to reset.

probably have a shower, face pack and a small tidy after a nap. I have been looking forward to this day all week.

I crochet, embroidery, game, paint, jigsaws, read, doom scroll on tik tok, collage, watch films, Lego, adult colouring.

Dh will read, watch tv and nap.

Teen dd will game, jigsaws, read, but mostly video game, often with me as we share love of the same games.

you says it’s not often so personally I’d leave the teens to do whatever they want to do to relax, if that’s a rare day on screens then I’d not be taking it upon myself to intervene, at that age they should be learning to structure their own free time. As long as they complete their chores and whatever household responsibilities they have.

Also lockdown wasn't that long ago! What did you do then?

At a minimum went out for daily walk, whatever the weather! Even Xmas day and things like that there always seems to be a reason to leave the house!
my mother was very much one to talk about “wasting the day” if you didn’t leave the house in some way so that’s perhaps part of the reason why it feels so alien to me!
Ive now caught up on my guilty pleasure tv programme (Below Deck) and am going to have day time bubble bath with a book. Sorry if this sounded ridiculous to some but it’s just not the usual Saturday for me. I still have that nagging feeling like I should make an effort to be productive today but I’m resisting!

@buffyfaithfredwesley cake shed you say?

@starballoons I'm very similar. I actually cannot remember when I last had a day where I didn't leave the house. Probably when I was ill at some point!

I do like chilling at home though, you definitely need a balance and as long as I get out for a walk at some point I'm fine with spending the rest of the day at home.

We've had a very lazy afternoon today. I had a long bath and listened to a podcast, DH has been painting his Warhammer figures, we've watched a film together, read books and just chilled.

Reading, brunch, bath, board games, movie night.

Read
Bake
Sleep
make a more complicated meal for dinner
watch a movie
sit in the garden if weather permits (most likely reading)
If we are really desperate we go for a walk via a coffee shop

MuddlingThroughLife · 13/09/2025 22:19

Read
Watch TV
Diamond art
Suduko
Word searches
Bubble bath with book or TV
Nap

And currently I'm working through a reading list for a 10 week uni course starting in May and making a latch hook cushion cover for my sister for Christmas.
