Struggling a bit! We have a few months his birthday is end November but its tough with Christmas close

This is what we've had past few years

1st Christmas: wooden walker
1st birthday: dinosaur rocker pikler
2nd Christmas: table and chairs set for crafts the ikea tray one
2nd birthday: scooter balance board
3rd christmas: balance bike
3rd birthday: motorbike ride on (chargeable one)
4th Christmas: bike with stabilisers which he still needs practice learning!

So any tips? He has everything near enough. Balance bike regular bike scooter all within age range

How about a day out like Legoland instead of an item?

TAteeeeey · 12/09/2025 20:20

I kind of like one stand out item and the other presents but maybe some years its not doable !

We did consider the hot wheels monster trucks live (with ear defenders) as he loves monster trucks ! So maybe this and a big monster truck balloon to reveal it to him

Yoto box?

LegoHouse274 · 12/09/2025 20:49

Agreed with a trip out rather than a thing. Theatre tickets or something similar perhaps.

Or a Yoto with some accessories and a selection of cards?

We don't really spend much on our kids though generally. They'd be just as happy with a few smaller presents like books, board games, play dough set or whatever.

Really good magnetic tiles, we like the Connetix ones (the cheaper ones are much more flimsy and break more easily) honestly they’re the best toy in our house, my 4 and 2 year olds play with them every day, weve got loads now and they’re part of so many games

hot wheels track - we have T rex blaze

ultimate garage

mega loop

Lego maybe. My child loved it from that age.

Or you don't have to do a big present. His main present could be a smaller one as a pp suggested, and then the rest of the money goes into an account or is spent later in the year on other things he's started liking. I don't always wait for occasions to get my child new toys.

HamSandwichKiller · 12/09/2025 21:45

I second the magnetic tiles recommendation. They’re expensive but such a versatile toy.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 12/09/2025 21:49

From around age 4 onwards the answer is Lego.

TwinklyPlumOrca · 12/09/2025 21:59

For my 4 year olds upcoming bday I've bought:

  • micro scooter (mini micro deluxe)
  • a 180 piece magnetic block set (amazon) Looks fab
  • wheres the puppy book (like wheres wally but with dogs)
  • hot wheels shark eater
  • baby paws dalmation

Already put away for Xmas as they were on offer:

  • walkie talkie
  • metal detector
  • Lego friends tree house lego set (he constantly plays with his cousins one)

He is going to be thrilled. Maybe there's an idea or two there for you

Dliplop · 12/09/2025 22:03

Lego, godzilla, sonic - anything like that. A sonic hoodie and a lego set would be a big win. I like the balloon idea if you give an experience. When we give experiences as the big gift to our kid we’ve either done it day of or given a small gift because they won’t connect the experience and the gift

Needmorelego · 12/09/2025 22:20

Take him to a toy shop and see what catches his eye.
You might want to buy a "big" present but he might fall in love with a £5 dinosaur figure and that's all he wants in the whole wide world 🦕
