New mattress advice plse!

Hi

Our mattress is 10 years old. It was really good quality, sprung from John Lewis and I have diligently turned and rotated as per all the advice. It looks immaculate.

Last night we stayed in a hotel and my other half woke up and said it's the first time she has woken up without back pain in three months and is convinced we need a new mattress. Apart from being horrified I didn't know she had been in pain for three months I want to do the right thing and speedily!

I know all the advice is that you should change your mattress after 10 years but I had assumed that was advice from mattress manufacturers!

Does anyone have any good experiences of buying a mattress, testing it, returning it if it was uncomfortable etc?

Book a premier inn for the night. If you like the mattress buy a premier inn mattress from silent night.

John Lewis has a money back guarantee if you don’t like it

I second a Premier Inn mattress. We stay there often and have our best night's sleep there, so bought the mattress. Clever design too, you don't have to turn the whole mattress.

Did you take a look at what mattress it was as it sounds perfect for your other half 😂.
We stretched our last one to twelve years and are now in the trial period of a Tempur mattress, so sorry no experience of returning. It would have to be really bad though as I don’t fancy moving our old one back up the stairs while we decide on a different one. Lots of places seem to have trials now. We did the sleep machine at Dreams and then just lay on lots in different shops that were along similar lines. Bought the Tempur direct though. Premier Inn mattresses seem popular, but I wasn’t a fan. There is a lot of choice compared to what I remember 12 years ago and also lots of reviews to put you off ones you find comfortable in store.

We swapped ours earlier this year after around ten years too, ended up going with a handmade one from Winstons Beds. It’s way more supportive than the old John Lewis sprung one, and I like that you can flip it (proper two-sided build, not the "rotate only" thing most brands do now). The 100-night trial made it less stressful to choose.

I had a Simba delivered last week that replaced a 10 year old quality sprung. I didn't think my old one was too bad until I tried this (im on it now). It's very comfy and they had an offer on (not sure if now ended) where they included 2 free pillows, duvet and a protector. All add to the experience and are obviously Simba branded, would have cost 600 just for the freebies
