Several calls from random mobile numbers

Over the last week I've had 4 or 5 calls from unknown mobile numbers. All different numbers. I picked up on a couple of them the call was then disconnected. Any idea what this can be? I've blocked them all now but as it's different numbers I don't know what's going on.

Scammers. Ignore

Allswellandgood · 10/09/2025 16:47

I don't know if this would work for everyone but so far it's worked for us.
Whenever we have dealings with a company, a store, a service or a specialist or anyone where there's a possibility of them calling us, I input the number in the contact list, with ID.
If any unfamiliar number calls and it doesn't have an ID and they don't leave a message, then to me that means wrong number, or they didn't have anything to say that should be left on a message.

Oh and, and it's a thing that by picking up the phone when an unfamiliar number calls and there appears to be no one on the line, and you hang up, what you have done is answered a robocall validation call, which lets the scammers know that your line is active and you can be targeted again by scammers.

I'll make sure I don't answer any more then and will just keep blocking. Thanks

It could be scammers - usually is, but I've also had the hospital calling me and the pain clinic under unknown numbers. Might be wise to answer first and block afterwards. My phone has a report spam and block option and if enough people do that the provider blocks it for everyone.

CalzoneOnLegs · 10/09/2025 17:47

Check on the ‘who called me’ site and make a report if necessary on there

https://who-called.co.uk/

RedRiverShore5 · 10/09/2025 17:49

I silence all unknown numbers, and no, the hospital isn't likely to ring me. but I can see some mobile numbers in red that have been silenced.

RedRiverShore5 · 10/09/2025 17:50

I have also put IDs on numbers like the garage, hairdressers, etc.

Papyrophile · 10/09/2025 17:53

If I don't know the number, or it doesn't have a local area code, I assume it's spam and block it as junk.

Sodukuchess · 10/09/2025 18:36

These are mobile numbers, not landline or business numbers.

You can use a mobile number to make telesales calls, I used to work for a company that did it

RedRiverShore5 · 10/09/2025 18:42

They are probably using mobile numbers as they seem less easy to trace than the landlines they used to used. Every spammy call I have had has been different mobile numbers

Lennonjingles · 10/09/2025 18:45

I answered one the other day, person said he wanted to talk about my Sky TV Account, our Sky account is in DH name and I’ve never given my mobile number to them, so put phone down. I do seem to get a spate of these when I’ve purchased something online, so presume these companies are selling on mobile numbers.

SunnyD4ys · 10/09/2025 18:53

You've done well never to have had any before now, spam callers are a real pain

LittleWeasel · 10/09/2025 19:13

I started getting international spam calls from a country I’ve never been to and don’t know anyone from.

i found out that all calls from s particular country by just blocking the country code.

They seem to be UK mobiles

All the spam calls I get are usually 073, 074, 076 numbers.

Ihateboris · 10/09/2025 19:37

This has recently been happening to me. I rarely get any calls, other than my known contacts, and then completely out of the blue, I was receiving lots of mobile numbers within minutes of each other. Sometimes about 20 calls a day. I was so worried that I actually googled my own number to see if it had been published on a dodgy website 🤣! I never answered any of the calls and they stopped after a few days.

KnottyKnitting · 10/09/2025 21:58

I always use a site called https://who-called.co.uk/ You can paste the number in and it will tell you who it is registered to and if others have looked it up and if it is suspicious. I then block any that are. Do not be tempted to call them back. You will be plagued!

Brookester · 18/09/2025 17:40

Out the blue, Ive received 30 calls from mobiles since Sep 8th. All I can do is not answer and block, but it's really unnerving. Someone mentioned it's called spoofing? So my number was possibly got off some list?

groma · 18/09/2025 19:05

I never had this problem until last week! I’ve had so many calls that clearly originate in China. Have blocked the numbers but keep coming through on new numbers each time. Have set my phone to send all unknown callers to silent and divert to answerphone.

Are they mobile numbers? Mine are regular mobile numbers. Can I ask how many you've received? Im up to 32 in the last week.

Echobelly · 18/09/2025 19:48

It's scammers - very annoying. I've changed my phone message to say that if someone might be ringing from an unfamiliar number, please leave a message otherwise I will have to assume it's a spam call and ignore it. Seems to work well as a system, as I don't pick up random numbers but genuine callers do leave messages.
