Ryanair carry on changes

I understand the dimensions for carry on bags have changed with Ryanair. One of the dimensions is now 5cm less, another 5cm more. My husband is adamant the bags we used last year, with the old dimensions will be fine. Does anyone have any recent experience flying Ryanair that could advise please?
