Off to Uni, good gift?

My nephew is off to uni in a couple of weeks, what gift can we get him? He'll be in halls, he likes going to the gym, will be studying law. His parents will get him all the practical stuff, I've no idea what to get except book tokens or vouchers. Is that really dull?

My DD is off to university in a week also. I suggest food vouchers: deliveroo or just eat? He can use them later in term when he's depleted his other resources? Plus, there's nothing so liberating as the freedom to buy what YOU want. :)

Tesco voucher or one of the coffee shop ones

I had a tray of brownies (mixed flavours) delivered to my nephew so he could share them with his flat in halls. Went down well.

I’d wait a couple of weeks after he’s gone, then send a card with a Greggs gift card or similar.

I gave my nephew a voucher for Just Eat or similar! Great for freshers week 😂

Greggs is a really good suggestion.

A Greggs gift card Grin

caringcarer · 08/09/2025 21:37

Definitely a good voucher. He'll be glad of it when he can't be bothered to cook.

My son likes nothing better than a Just Eat or Deliveroo voucher

Is there a gym he's planning to be frequent at? You can get him a membership in there if that's a thing, or maybe something like protein powder or protein snacks, etc. A good shaker bottle would be great as well! Or you can make a personalized planner for him if he likes to write down his workouts and results, but you need to make sure he doesn't use an app for that.
Overall, a gift card or coffee shop voucher or just cash are all great ideas either way if you never find anything else to get him!

When my nephew went to uni, I made up a basket filled with essentials - snacks, cleaning products, stationery, water bottle and some of his favourite things.

Someone has already suggested coffee shop tokens and I think that is a great idea as he might be able to get a cake and a coffee. It might be as well to check that the coffee chain operates in the place he is going to before buying them.
