Possible to take security tags off clothes?

Bought a jumper yesterday and when I got home I realised that they'd forgotten to take the security tag off. Really cba to go back - is there a way of doing this at home? And why didn't it trigger an alarm in the shop?!

Do you have a receipt (I'm not suggesting you shoplifted it) if you do, you can go to a nearer more local store (like sainsburys) and show them the receipt and they might remove it for you

Yes. There are YouTube videos. Dh does mine with a hammer I think. There’s a technique rather than brute force. Check it’s not a dye one.

Wow, seems to happen a lot I've read this before on this site.
I have to say I've never had that happen to me and I'm glad of that. I have heard alarms triggered exiting a store, again, thankfully not by me, so I know it does happen.
Don't these stores train and impress on cashiers how important it is to remove these tags? Could lead to a lot of embarrassment by shoppers who then take a dim view of the store I would think.

Even with a receipt, most stores will assume you've bought one, stolen another, then if you can get the tag off will take it back for a refund. The tag may have been left on by mistake, but I've bought many things with tags and never had one left on. TBH the buy one, steal one, take one back for a refund scam is very common even with items that don't have tags.

I’ve done it before and just removed it with pliers or secateurs and a bit of brute force

I have a pair of work trousers, bought pre lockdown and only realised after lockdown that they had the tag - by then no receipt and I couldn’t remember which shop they came from. They are still stuck in my wardrobe!

Just grip it on the littler side with a pair of pliers and bent it side to side, eventually the metal pin will snap.

I had this issue with a new jacket and noticed the day before a big event and couldn't go to the retailers. I ran around my local shopping centre asking everyone and luckily one shop removed it. There are different systems and there might be a local shop compatible. I think I was on my 7th or 8th shop when it worked, it was embarrassing! It was such a relief when it worked

I’ve had this. Tried YouTube videos, tried a massive magnet that should have done it (don’t ask), but in the end i had to go back to the shop. Turns out it was coded too.
