Anyone remember The Snow Spider?

Book or film version.

It used to terrify me! The whole premise of a child disappearing and then returning not the same.The witchcraft. The prisoner trapped in ice screaming. And of course the spider, although it was actually quite cute, being white!

I loved it as a child and I still have the book, but the film version really spooked me, so atmospheric.

I do think it was a classic though.

Is this the 1980s version? I loved that but I think I’ve blocked out large parts of it. Was it one of the series they used to show on a Sunday teatime in the run up to Christmas?

Kids TV in the 70s and 80s was the stuff of nightmares. I’ve spent a large part of my adulthood looking up old clips to try and exorcise the terror. The Watcher in the Woods and The Bells of Astercote lived rent free in my head for years.

My favourite books as a child, so much so that I bought copies as an adult to re-read them all. Though I do think the appeal was partly due to being a Welsh family living in England and finding our family names in a book which was amazing to me!
