Mitchum & burning sensation

illfittingtrousers · 07/09/2025 07:29

Has anyone had a problem with Mitchum deodorant lately? The most recent one I bought (the pink roll on) gave me burn marks on my armpits. Not little either! Big red stripes. Then I saw something on TikTok with other people complaining about this. Apparently Mitchum offered some money off vouchers but nothing else. Are they allowed to just change the ingredients like that without even testing it?!

They absolutely changed their formula. DH and I were both using the men’s because that was the best one for my allergies. We both had to stop because even if only he uses it now, I get a reaction if I touch him.

I don’t have the bottles anymore, but I did a side by side comparison of old and new and they are different.

This happened to me too. I've been using Mitchum for several years as it's more effective than other brands. Last few weeks my skin felt like it was burning and I developed red patches that went a bit scabby. Thought it was my skin drying out due to menopause. I changed to Dove stick deodorant and my skin is back to normal. I'm now switching between Dove and Mitchum and which seems to work but my armpits do get a bit tingly on the Mitchum days.

Yes I had the same issue. I switched to the fragrance free and don’t have any problems (though I do take an antihistamine daily now for nasal allergies)

Exactly that, been using the same one as you for years and years. A few months ago though literally started setting my armpits on fire....... although I can still use the mitchum clear gel that I can only find in super savers

Pengane · 09/09/2025 11:46

Hello all, Mitchum have released a statement and information . Please see below (I got this from the “How to feed your family for £20 a week” Facebook page).

(Mumsnet are reviewing the images that I’ve screenshot from Facebook)

smallsilvercloud · 09/09/2025 11:49

2 years ago I realised I couldn’t use the stick formula anymore as I developed large red cysts from using it, it’s been going on longer than a bad batch

Pengane · 09/09/2025 11:50

Apologies @OldYorkMum , I can see you already posted about this!

Calliopespa · 09/09/2025 18:12

It's on BBC tonight

WingBingo · 09/09/2025 20:53

And I thought I was due a trip to the doctors. I have a roll on that is part of the batch.

Not so worried now!

GaudySocks · 14/09/2025 11:01

Has anyone had any response or acknowledgment from Mitchum yet?

Came here to ask the same question. Appaling customer service/crisis mgmt. I used their contact form a week last Sunday and just had a formulaic holding message response today. The problem is potentially much bigger than they anticipated?

GaudySocks · 01/10/2025 10:54

Thank you @dick27. I have heard nothing at all yet, not even an automatic response/acknowledgement. Very poor.

(edited to add that I contacted them on 9th September)

LamonicBibber1 · 01/10/2025 11:03

This happened to me too! When I borrowed my daughter's deodorant. It only took one application to burn me :-/ It was horrible. It went scabby, proper skin damage.

She used it and it made her smell really odd. Something has definitely changed in the formula, and I can't believe they are denying it . Surely that's illegal in some way, people need to know what's literally burning them?!

Does anyone have any good suggestions for a strong replacement? Ordinary deodorants don't quite cut it for my daughter.

Whenindoubthugitout · 01/10/2025 11:09

I have heard nothing,
swapped to tropics deodorant. So far I am liking it

Kittybakes89765 · 06/10/2025 13:33

I completed their online forms and today received a £3.50 voucher from them... Seems an odd way to resolve chemical burns

£3.50!😂

Calliopespa · 06/10/2025 19:55

In all honesty, I had one of the affected batch numbers, used it (unknowingly), had one sore armpit which I put down to a reaction from an insect bite, (as the other armpit was fine), used nothing on it for a couple of days while it calmed, and then continued and it was fine thereafter, like the other armpit.

Obviously I am borderline responsive to whatever the issue was.

But now \I know of the issue I've binned it and am continuing with unaffected batch numbers and having no problems.

WinteringTheStorm · 06/10/2025 20:03

I’ve been using the pink Powder Fresh - an unaffected batch - and still getting burning armpits. I’m going to have to stop using it which is a bugger as it’s the only thing that dealt with the perimenopausal sweats and smell. Got to find something else now….

OldYorkMum · 07/10/2025 06:22

Well well well. Mitchum have now withdrawn all the roll ons as a health risk. Unbelievable that it’s taken so long to acknowledge what they have been told for months.
£3.50 refund is a disgrace.

Calliopespa · 07/10/2025 07:57

They are still showing the men's unscented on their website, as well as powder fresh for women? Problem is finding a stockist I guess.

Does anyone know if the stick is any good?

OldYorkMum · 07/10/2025 08:39

Stick works albeit a bit waxy, but handy for airport travel as it’s not a liquid.
my preference is the spray.

BruisedNeckMeat · 07/10/2025 08:48

My goodness, I’ve just seen this thread and thought it was just me. I had the red welts but thought it was due to needing to change my razor. I’ve had to grow a proper pit forest while waiting for it to heal!

How awful that a product can cause actual burns and the answer is a £3.50 voucher for more of the product!!

Time for a brand change.

Piggywaspushed · 07/10/2025 09:04

I've had this too and actually threw away a load of Dove spray as I thought it was that.

My batch number is different form that shown by one digit. I binned it and no issues since so it must be another faulty batch!
