Council house viewing

I've got a viewing for a council property the letter I received didn't say what position I'm in and Locata has not been updated.
At the end of the email it say Please respond as soon as you viewed the property. Contact by email......... and confirm in an email if you are accepting. Alternatively, if you are refusing then a reason for this would be required.
Does this mean I'm position 1?

Seems to be yours for the taking if you like it... Good luck

It's a brand new house I'd be crazy to turn it down. It meets our needs and is only 20-30 minutes from ds special needs school so would cut the school run in half.
Hurry up Thursday.

That's fantastic,I wish you all the best in your new home.
From one council tenant to another.👍😁

I was 2nd on the list so don't think we got it. The person 1st on the list wasn't there when I viewed.
Was told someone would contact me if they turn it down.
This week have been able to bid on 3 properties so fingers crossed.

If the other person takes it does that mean you’re now 1st? Or doesn’t it work like that?

From what I know each time we bid on a property at the end they check who has the highest priority. So the next one I bid on I could be number 1 or number 10 it like a lottery.

To be honest so did I. I don't get why they would say to accept or decline via email. There's nothing to accept really.
But I still sent the email to say I would accept so they know I would want it.
There was 5 different families viewing I don't know why the do that when only 1 can have it.

I thought it was a case of they offer you view to accept or decline if declined it moves to next on the list.
I've been council tenant for 30years ,I daresay things are done differently now.

Dreamhigh · 13/09/2025 13:57

I've been with the housing assosation for 20 years and they did it the way I thought it was done they only offered me to view it and if I would have declined next on list would view. The way they do it now was there was at least 5 families there viewing. One lady was crying when she realised she was 4th on the list and had no chance.
One thing I did find strange was they said the flooring could never be changed downstairs they would change it every 20ish years cause it's underfloor heating. She said no rug either all very strange to me for the council.

My son is getting harder and harder to carry up 6 flights if stairs if he didn't have mobility problems I would be happy to stay in My flat.

Edited

They do this so they can let the property asap as every week it’s vacant is a weeks rent loss, and it’s then not delayed by readvertising. Council housing services are funded from rents so every week counts
