How many siblings did you have and how many DC do you have

Just curious really, survey style. How many siblings did you have growing up/what number sibling were you, and how many DC did you end up having or not having? (Or would have liked)

I'm youngest of 3 and have 2 DC and would like a 3rd. I know a few families of 3 where the eldest then stopped at 1DC, the middle stopped at 2 DC and the 3rd had or wanted 3! I'm interested in how kids experience different size family dynamics!

I have 2 siblings and 3 kids.

pinotnow · 06/09/2025 21:49

I have no siblings and two sons. Sibling relationships have always been fascinating to me and I love that my two get on well. They have no cousins they know though as my ex only has one childless sibling and there's no one else we are in touch with.

I’m one of 3. I have one DC. I would probably have liked a second if circumstances permitted. I definitely would not have had 3. It’s not good to have an odd number - someone is always left out - and also it makes things like travelling harder, as most things tend to be set up for a family of 4. We could probably just afford 3, but it wouldn’t be the same standard of living that we have now.

I have 3, with a massive age gap between the older ones and myself hence I think why many people point out the stereotypical ‘eldest daughter’ traits in me.

1 DC of my own, and up until that point was convinced I did not want kids. Don’t want any more children, though I worry about lack of support for my DC when we’re aged or gone.

DryIce · 06/09/2025 21:52

Eldest of three, I had two - with the same age gap as me and closest sibling. Would have loved a third if husband had have been on board - think my sibling group was perfect number and age gap!

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 21:53

How many people on this thread are under 40? Lots of families only have 2 max now despite wanting more.

One sibling, I was the eldest and 4DC. Out of the 4, eldest has 2 DC, second is one and done. 3rd child has no children but wants them and 4th child does not want children.

ShodAndShadySenators · 06/09/2025 21:59

I am third of four. DB1 had one dc, DB2 has none, I have one, DSis has two.

We had three cousins, of them one has two, one has one and the last has none.

We don't seem to go in for big families, I can't say for anyone else but I had no intention of having more than two (and in fact stopped at one). Growing up we were really badly off and we went without so much basic stuff. Not food but I remember my school uniform getting too small - my shirt cuffs were actually frayed and my sleeves too tight to bend my elbows properly. No way was I going to risk that happening to any children I had, I knew too well how horrible it was missing out.

I might have had two but the urge to have a baby disappeared after DS, so I didn't bother.

SpottyAardvark · 06/09/2025 22:00

Two siblings, both brothers. No children, by choice. The latter is unrelated to the former.

troppibambini6 · 06/09/2025 22:01

None. I’m an only child. I have 6 dc I hated being an only.

sueelleker · 06/09/2025 22:05

One sister. I don't have, and never wanted kids; but my sister has 5, 4 girls and one boy. I figure that's enough for both of us.

niki26 · 06/09/2025 22:05
