Nothing is selling!

I’m in Hampshire
Been looking at houses online for weeks as was going to put ours up for sale soon, keep noticing loads are still listed and been listed for months, also loads coming up ‘unexpectedly re available’. Not sure it’s even worth putting ours up now. Seems like nothing is shifting.

I’ve been trying to save money for the move, so massive clear outs, listing things on FB marketplace etc..good quality and usually very in demand things where I live (horse riding clothes, horse stuff, teens clothes, homeware) it’s all been more than reasonably priced bar me giving it away and still I’ve only sold one thing! Normally it would fly out at the prices I’ve listed! Why does nothing seem to be selling at the moment? Anyone else finding the same? Everything seems so stagnant it’s a bit depressing

Same in our area. It’s just the market I think.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 06/09/2025 18:46

It’s just coming to the end of summer holidays. Normal.

The housing market is flat as a pancake. Economy is going down the toilet and the chancellor is making people nervous. Houses will still have to be sold, but more likely the distress sales of death, divorce or debt driving them.

Morningswim · 06/09/2025 20:19

Yes, idly check rightmove a lot. Not much is going on there, and what is for sale isn't shifting. Very odd times

Morningswim · 06/09/2025 20:20

I dont think people really use FB market place any more though do they? I've given up on it. I think everyone must use vinted ?

minipie · 06/09/2025 20:23

End of summer
Economic downturn
Historically high house prices vs wages
Ever changing speculation/leaks about possible new property related taxes

None of this is helping

MyElatedUmberFinch · 06/09/2025 20:25

Three houses have sold really quickly in my small street this summer. Hardly any have been on the market since they were built 12 years so it was good to see they go quickly.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 06/09/2025 20:27

Same here.

and yet another 500 homes planned to be built in my town!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/09/2025 20:29

Houses going like hot cakes round me.

Ofsted outstanding secondary.

Also lm selling loads on Vinted.

Finteq · 06/09/2025 20:31

Everything I see being put up for sale seems really overpriced.

Like they've just picked a fantasy figure out of this air.

Then a few weeks later I see a reduction.

I think if your house is realistically priced it will sell.

You have to understand with interest rates rising. Mortgage costs have gone up significantly. And so affordability has gone down for anyone who relies on a mortgage.

If you're realistic it will sell.

Billybagpuss · 06/09/2025 20:31

Look at the plants in the garden pictures. Locally there are a lot that have the forsythia in full bloom. That’s pretty much the first plant to flower after the snowdrops. Nothing is moving.

Another vote for vinted…looks like I’ll be listing on there then.

Im in a lovely area, great primary and secondary, yet still homes are sitting for yonks…I do agree with another poster though that a lot of people are still expecting covid prices for their houses, grossly overpriced a lot of them.

My daughter has just bid for the 4th time on a house in East London. And did not get it, yet again.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 06/09/2025 20:54

I've got half an eye on the market near me and things across all price points are coming on, staying on and then getting reduced. Plus a pinch of deluded Foxtons-style agent promising vendors £££££ and putting stuff up at 20% what they'll realistically fetch.

Rainbowdays123 · 06/09/2025 20:54

My friend put her house on the market. Had 12 viewings the first weekend and 6 offers. Ordinary Victorian terrace south east London.

We are just about to complete on a house in Hampshire. It has been on the market a long time, but the bones of it are good, massive potential, you just need a bit of vision, which people now don’t seem to have? We have also just sold our house within a week of putting it on (allegedly, I believe nothing until the money is in the bank!) because it’s “done”. No vision required. It’s a difficult market and the majority of people do not want to change anything or do any work to a property, understandably so. If you have a property that is “done”, it will sell. If you are prepared to do the work, you could get a bargain.

I’ve done nothing but doer-uppers my whole life, I was actually hoping for a done one this time, but think I’ll have to stick to the ones that need vision 😂 I do enjoy it really but I’m getting old and tired for all this work.
Our house is pretty done…new boiler, guttering, painted fresh, kitchen new 4 years ago. We’ve spent a fortune but I’m not expecting to over price it. Fingers crossed for you yours all goes smoothly!
