I want a poem about a young woman in the countryside, maybe dancing in a cornfield, sunny day etc to read like a happy memory. Any ideas please? Something like a Hardy but happy.

Ask chat gtp. You’ll get loads of suggestions.

Thanks, I’ve spent about an hour online and just getting a load of rubbish. I wondered if there was a poetry buff here who might think of something,

I read this at my DM’s funeral - she was from a farming family, and I felt this kind of reflected that.

Into the freedom of wind and sunshine
We let you go
Into the dance of the stars and the planets
We let you go
Into the wind’s breath, and the hands of the star maker
We let you go
We love you, we miss you, we want you to be happy
Go safely, go dancing, go running home.

Thank you @Yiayoula that’s lovely. This is for a funeral, too. I want it to be like a happy memory rather than a sad funereal reading.

There’s this one by Mary Oliver

When I Am Among the Trees
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again,
“It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come into the world
to do this, to go easy,
to be filled with light, and to shine.”

@BarbaraVineFan thank you, not quite what I’m after but it’s lovely.

Not right either but ‘she walks in beauty’ is leading so far. I don’t want it to be a remembrance poem as such, but one that could be used as a memory, if that makes any sense.

How about The Solitary Reaper by Wordsworth?

I’m so pleased you like it - and I know what you mean about a lot of the funeral-type poems online, DH and I were despairing until we came across this one.
Still makes me tear up up seven years on, but in a good way .
I’m sorry for your loss x

Thank you, a bit more upbeat and that would be perfect. It is lovely though, I might keep it on the list.

Look at Ruth by Thomas Hood. Might not suit but it’s what came to my mind!
