I saw this earlier and used it as a good example to show my children that all the focus on good handwriting in school was important because otherwise you’d end up in a job where you were widely and publicly ridiculed for your incompetence (like Starmer) and having your handwriting widely and publicly ridiculed online (just like Starmer).

His handwriting’s looks fine to me 🤷‍♀️

chilliheeler123 · 05/09/2025 16:32

63 (I had to Google it, and was rather surprised as I thought he was late 40s!)

My dad has appalling handwriting and he designed the channel tunnel. I had a boyfriend at college whose handwriting was so bad that a tutor has to rewrite his exams so they could be marked...now a partner at a solicitors.

Surely the message is that despite terrible handwriting you can still go on to be successful?

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 05/09/2025 16:57

I have terrible handwriting and can't even hold a pen properly and I'm a published writer.

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 05/09/2025 17:02

Before you pile in on his handwriting, remember that the appalling Jacob Rees Mogg has lovely handwriting.

Starmer's is legible, which is the key thing. Perhaps a bit chaotic. I googled to see if he was a leftie (in the handwriting sense) but, perhaps not surprisingly, he is on the right.
I'm a leftie and my handwriting is similarly chaotic.

His handwriting is better than my DHs to be fair and he has a masters degree.

I thought the same until quite recently too. Was gobsmacked to discover that Keir is older than Farage! 🤯😮

Princess Diana’s handwriting

What's wrong with his handwriting? It looks quite normal to me. Maybe a bit messy, but it's perfectly legible.

Boomer55 · 05/09/2025 17:09

Doctors are intelligent but their writing is usually shockingly bad. 🤷‍♀️

Namechangedforspooky · 05/09/2025 17:10

It’s a lot neater than my handwriting.
In my defence I am a doctor though 😀

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 05/09/2025 17:12

My dad's handwriting is so bad that sometimes you can't tell which language he's writing in. It's never held him back.

AmberDuckBlue · 05/09/2025 17:15

I often cannot read my own handwriting 😂 It's gotten worse with age too.

flyingsquirrelsagogo · 05/09/2025 17:21

What is wrong with this handwriting? It’s perfectly legible. Is only copperplate acceptable?
I cannot read my own handwriting. Hasn’t held me back.

Finteq · 05/09/2025 17:25

The writing looks fine to me.

I was reading the content and it looks like someone educated to a high degree.

I guess it's easy to sit and laugh at someone else.

My handwriting isn't good. But there's nothing I can do about it. Obviously these days it doesn't matter because nearly all of my written content is done via computers.

In the end these days it's the content that's important not the handwriting.

It's more important that you can express yourself clearly with good grammar and punctuation.

Well, the other way to look at that would be that the focus on handwriting isn’t that important, because it won’t hold you back from senior jobs like director of public prosecutions, or prime minister.

Also I don’t think his handwriting is that bad anyway. It’s far far more legible than Johnson’s! Sunak’s doesn’t look great either. A quick google suggests that maybe far from perfect handwriting is a requirement for being PM. Cameron’s isn’t that readable either!

Wynter25 · 05/09/2025 17:35

Looks fine to me

Tam285 · 05/09/2025 17:59

At first glance I immediately thought, wow, that looks like an adults handwriting to me.

Dyspraxia runs in my family and I don't think good hand writing is at all important tbh. Total waste of time to focus so much time on it at school, why aren't they teaching young kids how to touch type instead? Touch typing isn't a mandatory part of the curriculum at any age here unlike in other countries such as the US and Aus.
