The last few days i have had horrible pain on one side of my face. It started wirh nerve pain like little shooting pains on the side of my head around my eye and temple and into my scalp. Brushing my hair felt like it was hurting my skin. But they after a day or so i started getting pain in my mouth. It does seem to be on one side near a tooth which has a filling but most of the discomfort is on the roof of my mouth. Its just burning and aching. I have no pain biting down on the tooth or poking tooth.

i made a dentist appt for a weeks time (thats the earliest they had) but its seriously driving me mad. I feel just run down abd a bit sick this morning.

I dont know if it need to try and find anither dentist that can see me quicker or if its not even a debtal problem as its more pr a mouth rash or if i can just ask a pharmacist but i feel oike i dont really want to leave it another week.

included a pic sp you can see it is on one side but spreads across my mouth to half way. Theres more spottiness in real life but its really hard tl take a photo of yoir own mouth.

any ideas appreciated as i feel so upset sitting here !

Sorry to hear. Can't see any pics.

If it sounds like this

https://patient.info/brain-nerves/trigeminal-neuralgia-leaflet

Then gp. But if its actually a mouth lesion then dentist. Gp will redirect you if not your area

I can’t see a photo but just by reading this I would say shingles. The pharmacist should be able to prescribe antivirals for you but best taken asap so get down there as soon as you can.

Just to add. I have had facial shingles but managed to get the antivirals before the rash came out.

No point going to pharmacy first IMO, that's for minor things but this needs to be checked. No one can diagnose online.

Seek an urgent GP appointment today - 111 can be helpful with this.

If the GP says dentist, then you can try to speed that up whilst already having an appointment booked.

I think the pic has been approved now i will call up today and ask about seeing someone!

I agree with GP. Mentioned pharmacist in case and as they now diagnose and prescribe antivirals for shingles. Appreciate not everyone can get a GP appointment same day/asap. All the best and hope you feel better soon.

Shingles - go and see a pharmacist, they can diagnose and prescribe on the same day ☺️

I think the fact that the rash only goes half way across your mouth makes shingles highly likely.
Pharmacists are able to prescribe the antivirals, but having shingles inside your mouth is more unusual so they may want you to see a GP. It is important to start the AVs as soon as you can.

GreenGodiva · 04/09/2025 09:04

This sounds like it corks be shingles

FieldOfBeans · 04/09/2025 09:43

It does look like oral shingles and would explain the pain in the face too. It could be a number of things though. Antivirals generally only help if they’re taken within 72 hours of onset of symptoms, but it is worth trying to get an urgent appointment with the GP anyway because of where the lesions are.
