Just as the title suggests really, a retired colleague that I’ve stayed in touch with has had a hip replacement. I’d like to send her a gift but not sure if chocolates/sweets are a good idea.. she has plenty books and Netflix etc subscriptions
what else would be nice/distracting for her? She isn’t one for sitting for long periods!

A gift card for a favourite restaurant, cafe or pub? To give her something to look forward to when she's able to go out and about.

Otherwise chocolates, a bottle of booze or flowers or a house plant always go down well with most people.

If she's fairly healthy she won't be immobile for very long.

You’re lovely to get her a gift and I’m sure she will appreciate whatever you get her. How about something to distract her - a jigsaw puzzle? If she can sit to do it - or has a puzzle tray she can lay it on next to her. I’ve recently been immobile and was gifted a jigsaw and, whilst I wouldn’t normally be a puzzle person, it was actually enjoyable and distracting. Otherwise, a colouring book or embroidery project / kit such as a cushion. Something to keep her busy whilst she can’t move easily. Otherwise, flowers can be lovely if you aren’t very mobile and can’t get out much. Or a posh ready meal - homemade even better if you’re a good cook - if she won’t be able to stand much to cook.
