12 yo in an uber?

Have a sudden car issue and I need to get sensible 12 yo DS home tomorrow night at 8pm. Distance 2 miles. Thinking of organising him an uber

  1. is this safe
  2. is it practically doable if I pay on my uber account?
he will have his phone with him.

no public transport options, in theory he could walk but he wouldn’t be happy and it will be dark.

Only other option is I get the uber from here and do a round trip but I’d have to drag much younger dcs with me.

What do mumsnetters think?

I would think its safe

You can track the entire journey via uber - i think you can even send the driver a short message to let him know that your son is the one riding, and that you will meet him and the drop off point

someone else can ride in an uber you order, I've done this several times xx

I would do the round trip

You can set up “uber teen” now but you’d have to lie that he’s 13. Could have insurance implications I guess

I think with ‘normal’ can services this is fine. Afaicr dd has been using cabs since she was about 13

*cab

Yep I shall ring a local taxi firm and ask. And just do the round trip if I have to. Thanks

Is there a private taxi service? If yes then use that. This is how boarders at school got to / from the station when they didn’t have a lift or the bus wasn’t running.

otherwise set up uber teen and pretend he is 13.
