I think someone is signing me up for a load of nuisance emails

Except I don’t know who it is, just that they would have my email address.

I have had so much crap emailed to me - dating sites (some very weird), granny porn, a communications website, sites in languages I don’t speak. I’ve been blocking them and forwarding them to [email protected] but it’s been so many that I can’t believe that someone isn’t making a bit of a project of it.

I am quite a dull woman and my internet search history is MN, M&S and John Lewis.

When you sign up for something, like a loyalty card or online service they sell your details on to others. Mine are usually spam phone calls or texts claiming to be recruitment consultants.

Or someone has a very similar email address to you. It happens to my husband and to my mum a lot. It doesn't seem to happen to me, although occasionally I get an email and think I didn't sign up to that so perhaps it does, but nowhere near as often as it does to my husband and mum!

And some of it will just be spam like the foreign language stuff. I had months of emails from Lidl in French...

ai makes spam/phishing like this easy.
welcome to a new world

Something like spam my enemies? Someone signed me up for that once. Don't know if it's still running though.

This happened to a friend who emails me occasionally.
She signs up for free this and bonus that with companies that she shopped at, using a 'spare' account.
Unfortunately my email address was still in the contact list when her account got hacked twice. I received two spam emails from her account, pretending to be her, and asking me to buy something for her.
Who knows where it would have gone from there.
I deleted the message and told my friend who finally ditched the spare account.
