A family member (call them B) died suddenly in Jan, unexpected and a shock. I’m the executor. Got a letter from DWP to say they owed money (pension and pension credit) to B and it would go into their bank. 6 months later, got a letter saying B had savings and they needed to check they hadn’t been paid money that they shouldn’t have been. I had to fill in loads of forms and send off. A month later got a letter saying everything is fine and B doesn’t owe anything. At this point I distributed the (very very) small amount B had left in their bank account.
Today I got a bloody letter say B owes the DWP over £200.
After phoning the guy I spoke to said they could see all the correspondence and would make a note that I wouldn’t be paying it.
FFS it’s fortunate I’m organised, and bolshy because this could have really worried someone who wasn’t. B didn’t actually have that much money to be distributed and I’m buggered if I was going to pay it!
Rant over. Thank you for reading.
