What've your turning-12-yr olds been asking for/enjoying, that aren't Xbox/Playstation-related? (Minecraft fine but he's not a gamer.)

He loves Lego, likes running, DnD, comedy podcasts, appreciates soft comfy clothes but isn't that moved by them. I think he's starting to be interested in having a cool room but doesn't really know what that entails or what he wants (he does have a lava lamp!).

He has a wallet, schoolbag, loads of art supplies, plenty of fiction books and a mag subscription that he likes (Blocks). He has a bike that's the right size and a new helmet. He has a Raspberry Pi but never got into it as our family laptop has given up the ghost, which is a shame as he's interested. We have sports kit like archery, swing ball etc. He doesn't have a phone so no accessories for that. We have board games and card games galore, and he has an Alexa in his room.

He's asked for a couple of specific Lego sets but other than that doesn't seem to have any ideas, and I have family that need ideas! I can of course ask for money but I know they like to get him actual things. Any ideas gratefully received...

An escape room is actually a great idea - he's very good at that kind of thing - I'll have a look for local ones.

Running-wise - he has good trainers but only a basic watch, I hadn't thought of upgrading that but deffo a possibility.

Thank you both!

Dartboard for back of the door? My son has a magnetic one and his mates play it when they come round

Marshmallow toasting kit? That was a hit but a one time use thing. Also a hit - those flick book sets , it comes with loads of the tiny pages, a way to put them together and a light up drawing pad thing.

Maybe have the relatives pool money to get him a suitable laptop and some Raspberry Pi lessons/workshops?

MoreRabbit · 01/09/2025 22:17

@Plinketyplonks the flip book LED thing looks perfect - he loves drawing and used to do loads of those books, but he'll love the LED aspect!

@JingsMahBucket in theory a good idea but I've I'd have to tell them which laptop to but and I don't have the time or wherewithal to start researching at the mo 😁 might be good for next year though - thank you both.

My son is about to turn 11, he's asked for...

NBA 2K26 for PS5
Jordan tracksuit
Massage gun
Electric whisk (random I know but he loves baking)
iphone
Lacoste T shirt
Personalised apron
New phone case
American sweets
New basketball shoes

MoreRabbit · 02/09/2025 06:52

Thanks @TartanMammy - massage gun made me chuckle 😁

My son is a similar age and a random thing i got him was an electric blanket. He's also into rubix cubes in a big way.

MoreRabbit · 02/09/2025 07:32

@Paradoes that's a great idea but his room is above the wood burner so it's always warm 😁 he also likes Rubik's Cubes but we already have that plus Rubik's Race.
