Where did the slug come from?

A puzzle….
I live in a small first floor 2 up 2 down maisonette in central london. This evening we’ve all been downstairs watching TV. I came upstairs to go to bed and there is a slug in the middle of my hall. No slimy trails in any direction. It is at least 30cm from any door and at least 1.2m from the nearest external (fire escape) door or open window.

We returned today from a weekend at the coast and our bags were approx 30cm from where the slug was. Our accommodation there didn’t have slugs

I am so puzzled, where did it come from? How did it get there? Where was it going?

I think it came out the bag, and is trying to escape somewhere it feels safer

Bump for the morning slug hunting mystery fans

My guess is through a window presuming you have had the windows open during the heatwave

That’s slugs for you!! They magically beam in from somewhere. Ours do anyway. It’s one of life’s great mysteries.

Do you have any pets? We have occasionally found a slug hitching a ride on one of our dogs 🤮

Slugs appear in my hallway and living room almost nightly. No idea how or why.

They like damp. Could have got in through a barely noticeable hole in the bathroom. They are also a sign of wood rot somewhere.

When we’ve had slugs inside it’s because they’ve fallen off the garden bin as we’ve pulled it through the house (terrace with no side access). DH now checks!

Another vote for the bags

I know where it came from!
When you arrived home, you put your bags down for a few moments while you unlocked the front door. The slug hitched a lift, then detached itself from your bags when it realised that they were not, in fact, hosta leaves.
It was sitting in the hall wondering where to go now, when you appeared from the living room and found it.

I only have to open the back door for a few seconds to call the cat in at bedtime, and a slug appears. No idea how (the slug arrives before the cat!)
