If a child was dropped at yours, would you (you have to pick one)

Child is dropped at yours to play with your children. Child has nits, but parent doesn’t tell you beforehand. Parent casually mentions it at pick-up. When you say she should have let you know, she says she didn’t think it was a big deal, some children won’t even know they have nits yet and besides, schools allow children to go with nits and there’ll probably be someone in their classes with nits anyway. What would you think?

a) WTF?

b) Good point.

c) Both.

d) Something else.

A. If I knew my dc has nits they would get treated straight away and wouldn’t be leaving the house until it’s sorted.

mummysmagicmedicine · 31/08/2025 19:13

A and I’d be fuming too. Learnt the hard way tea tree oil is the best along with nit treatment to kill them off x

Cobbstown · 31/08/2025 19:13

If she knew they had nits and sent them she would be dead to me !

Lottie6712 · 31/08/2025 19:21

A!!!!

LaughingCat · 31/08/2025 19:23

Nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

A all the way for me! What in the everlasting fuck was she thinking?!

OnLockdown · 31/08/2025 19:26

A. My child has got long thick curly hair and I would be seriously pissed off. (I might even send her a video of me trying to get the nitty gritty comb through her hair!)

mathanxiety · 31/08/2025 19:29

A and D

D would be, "In the unlikely event of any future play dates, I'll be checking for nits at drop off. Or you can save your child embarrassment and quietly cancel the date if you're aware of nits.. Your choice'

I would let her know what I thought.

TY78910 · 31/08/2025 19:40

A. It’s absolutely bonkers that she even thought this was ok. Number 1, it’s a pain in the arse to get rid of, the rest of the household can catch it. Number 2, it’s totally within her power to stop it spreading. Ridiculous woman. Clearly she had other plans for when the kid was at yours and she didn’t want the ‘childcare’ to fall through.

I'd have gone mental. Completely unacceptable.

WonderingWanda · 31/08/2025 19:45

A.

We had a terrible time in y3 with dd catching nits all the time so I was that parent. I always treated, tied her hair back and warned friends and family in advance so they could cancel. People were fine when they knew to be honest but it would be incredibly rude to knowingly show up.

bumbaloo · 31/08/2025 19:47

100% everyone will say A. She’s an appalling individual

A - and this happened to us. I have 3 dds with long hair so it was hell. I don’t miss primary. We had a family in primary with 5dc and the mum didn’t believe in treating nits because “they’re just natural aren’t they?!” WTF!

My dd had nits for 6 years (I'd treat them, they came back-im an expert in bloody nit combs)

The two kids who's mother's didn't treat them and kept reinfecting the while class

Parent A 'I work full time,I don't have time to treat them!'
Parent B 'I'm not dealing with them as they are natural!'

School had to get involved when their hair moved in huge clumps and the nits where as big as flies (first mother gave her dd an almost skinhead cut and the other mother finally bought some nit lotion and treated her ds)

I felt for the kids (both nasty bullies) as even they didn't deserve that

We finally got shot when they moved up to secondary school

Mucky gits

I wouldn't be impressed, particularly if I had a child with long hair or a child who struggled with having their hair combed

I’d be absolutely raging. Everyone in our house has thick curly hair.. a nightmare with nits. Once mine and my brother’s kids (he has 6) all got them. Me, DH, DB and SIL basically had a production like going to de louce them all.. the kids weirdly loved it but I am still traumatised.

DoYouReally · 31/08/2025 20:12

A & D. D being, she's an absolute inconsiderate twat!

This was my situation - plus, selfishly, I have thin long curly hair myself and every fucking time my kids got lice I had to spend 2 sets of 3rs with a very game friend nit combing my own hair.
