The most boring question of today. Hot or cold milk in tea?

My husband and I are having a (friendly) debate of whether milk should be hot or cold for the perfect cup of tea.
I am team hot!
It's a bit more effort but tastes so much better IMO.
My husband is team just put the cold milk in.
Having said that he also is happy with ANY brand of tea. But that's a debate for another boring Sunday.

Milk does not belong anywhere near tea 😆

childofthe607080s · 31/08/2025 18:45

I prefer cold but this isn’t a right or wrong question - it’s personal preference

TinselAngel · 31/08/2025 18:45

This. May aswell heat the water in the microwave too

Wonderknicks · 31/08/2025 18:46

I've never come across anyone putting hot milk in tea! For some reason the thought makes me feel.queasy (& I love tea).

jettisoned · 31/08/2025 18:48

Cold. Hot sounds 🤮

Comedycook · 31/08/2025 18:48

But doesn't the fact it's cold make the tea immediately drinkable in terms of temperature rather than too hot and having to wait for it to cool down?

WasherWoman25 · 31/08/2025 18:48

Cold, always cold!

Got a couple of cups on holiday where they used hot milk. It just wasn’t right.

midlifeattheoasis · 31/08/2025 18:53

It’s not boring! Of course it should be cold.

Chasingaces · 31/08/2025 18:56

Cold milk and only a small drop - yuk to hot milk!

catpoointhegrass · 31/08/2025 18:59

Who puts hot milk in tea?! That’s bonkers 😂

Vodkamartini3olives · 31/08/2025 19:02

Always cold. Unless it's something like a London fog. I don't know why anyone would drink such an abomination tho.

DPotter · 31/08/2025 19:04

Historically cold milk was added to the cup first to prevent the boiling water cracking the cup.

I have never heard of hot milk being added to tea.

TeapotTallulah · 31/08/2025 19:05

Hot milk in tea 🤮🤮

username007008 · 31/08/2025 19:06

Hot milk in tea is awful. I thought it was only in non- tea drinking countries where they did this in restaurants, and I have to remember to ask for cold milk.

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 31/08/2025 19:07

Good heavens. Cold.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 31/08/2025 19:08

Hot milk in tea would be horrible. Milk goes frothy when it’s heated. Who wants frothy tea?!

MsFelicityLemon · 31/08/2025 19:11

I don't take milk in tea and i know it's cold milk.

Hot milk in tea is for wrong uns

31stAugust2025 · 01/09/2025 09:26

I remember my teacher when I was six telling me I was a wrong 'un ... This cup of tea is for you Mrs Campbell. ☕

I am now raking back through my memories of 64 years of living and trying to remember if ANYONE has EVER put hot milk in tea to my knowledge.

Coffee, yes, some people do. Tea - nope, I'm coming up a blank there. It even sounds wrong, although I don't know why, it's as valid a choice as any other, I suppose. Wrong, but valid...

I always have mine black, too. To me it tastes vile with milk, which just goes to show how people’s taste buds can vary,

But TBH I’ve never heard of hot milk in tea!

ExcellentDesign · 01/09/2025 09:34

Cold, would never use hot, would be far too much effort to heat up such a tiny amount.

OwlsR · 01/09/2025 09:38

Cold - I’ve only had hot in India and didn’t like it at all. This might also because family at that time boiled the milk as she did trust the UHT process

modgepodge · 01/09/2025 09:38

The only time I’ve ever had hot milk in tea was in the US, where Starbucks just couldn’t get their head round my tea order. And it was bloody vile. As above, frothy 🤢
