Talk me out of a Chelsea bun / cinnamon roll

ItsnotnearlyChristmas · 31/08/2025 09:26

Stopped weight loss jab a month ago and food noise is back.
Since yesterday morning all I can think about is a love soft Chelsea bun with it’s dark cinnamon swirls and sugary bits.
Please talk me out of walking into town and buying one. If not for the calories for the fact it’s about £4 in Gail’s.
Yes I have drunk lots water and brushed my teeth.
Thank you.

Just go and get the bun and enjoy it. If you don’t, you’ll end up eating all sorts of other stuff anyway , better just have the thing you really want and then stop.

I have cake once a week but it has to be after my Saturday gym session.

I don’t know if that’s a helpful way of looking at things.

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 31/08/2025 09:31

Set up a saving pot for ‘things I didn’t buy’ and put the £4 in there. If you are still losing weight you can use that pot for new clothes.

You don’t need the bun, you don’t even want it. You just think you do.

You may see something else and spend more money, so that bun may cost you £20.

Sorry, that’s all I can do as I really want a bun now too. I did say no to fresh donuts that my nephew had just bought while we were out, the smugness I felt saying no was great. I do wish I could have tasted one though but I am trying to be good.

If you buy it, can you cut it in half and eat over two days?

Oooh that’s good!

I like the “you don’t want it, you just think you do” too.
Sadly I have realised I do need to go out and buy some vegetables and salad for work tomorrow . Maybe I should just take cash ( and hope there’s no cinnamon buns reduced).
Thanks all. Even reading the thread puts of my moment of weakness for 5 minutes😬

I’m afraid all this thread made me do was consider adding an m & s cinnamon bun to my basket when I pop in later , and I was only going for fruit . Sorry I’m a hopeless lack of help .

The bun won't nourish your body. Can you think of something which will, like fruit?

If you're craving the fat as well as the sugar content, then a small piece of cheese, glass of milk or a yoghurt will give you the same hit.

If cinnamon buns are your weakness then look up healthy cinnamon snacks/treats to make instead. Or make your own cinnamon bun bites, mini in size, in which you control the ingredients and are aware of all the sugar going into them.

Directing your attention to research may redirect your brains focus into something that gives you control too.

The bun won't nourish your body, it will just scratch an itch. It will affect your cholesterol and blood sugar, impacting your chances of diabetes and heart disease.

You might also find the Noom app helpful.

There won’t be any buns in fruit and veg section. If there is, someone was walked around with them and dumped them so you don’t want that one either, if they didn’t you definitely don’t!

Just buy and enjoy the bun. I have 1 a week and utterly love it. If the rest of your diet/exercise is intentionally planned then 1 bun will make zero difference.

bloodredfeaturewall · 31/08/2025 12:06

don't deprive yourself of any type of food.

if you want a cinnamon bun, have it. as a main meal with an apple. and enjoy it.

Whilst I am totally signed up to “ everything in moderation” as a theory, it’s not one I can manage with my mouth. Smoking, drinking and eating are all or nothing to me.
I’ve just spent £700 losing two stone so I want to stay this way for as long as possible.

Anyway . I did it. Went to Lidl. And actually @IHaveRunOutOfIdeas their fresh bakery is right opposite/ next to fruit and veg!
They had exactly the glorious buns I have been obsessing over. 89p. So I took a good look (for a good 2 minutes) told myself they will be there tomorrow if I still want one and walked past.
Thanks all. Actually even the posters who said “just have one” were helpful because I am quite oppositional. 😉

Glad you resisted. I am the same when it comes to food. Zero self control but when I am in the zone, I am in but it’s all or nothing.

I was tempted to do WLI but I can’t justify the costs, especially now, so completely understand why you don’t want to undo that hard work.

I am checking calories in absolutely everything at the minute as if this doesn’t work, I will look at Alli? And that scares me so it better work 😂.
