RFK jr says he will reveal cause of autism?

Has anyone seen this?

He claims he will reveal what it is in September.

Not sure I believe it to be honest and I have a feeling whatever answer he gives won't be definitive but will blame a whole range of possible things. I've done a Google search for those who haven't heard anything about it and there are lots of articles but I always see people get attacked based on which source they give so don't know which ones to link to?

I think until we see the research he’s referencing published we won’t know. I don’t think this research is citing calpol, that was something I read a few years ago and I can’t find now (so could well have been on an unreliable source) but your point is a good one.

I’m intrigued to read this research when it’s made public but know I didn’t take paracetamol in pregnancy and dd is ADD so it’s not the cause for her. I’m not diagnosed but definitely have ADD traits and there’s a lot of autism in my family so the genetic link is strong. I wonder about environmental triggers because I know certain foods and additives make DD’s ADD worse.

Interestingly I was told with my prem babies that the steroid injection for their lungs was now linked to issues such as adhd , behaviour , concentration issues in later childhood ? This was by 3 separate consultants as I was 34 w and they said it was up to me after hearing the risks so I guess medication in pregnancy may be an issue

Have to say though how awful this will be for women in the US I assume pain relief will be demonised and they’ll probably be prosecuted if they are found to use it

That’s so interesting. I had to take an antihistamine throughout pregnancy and possibly steroids (it’s a long time ago so can’t recall but certainly took them prior to).

I didn't take any pain relief during pregnancy but I was hospitalised for sickness and put on a drip with anti sickness meds.

I can’t see that anyone’s posted this link but apologies if they have. Definitely not what I was expecting but I remember reading years ago that there was a research finding suggesting this and over use of products like calpol in babies and children being a causal factor in relation to adhd. (I was interested as dd has ADD and I never used calpol or anything similar with her and never took painkillers in pregnancy.)

This is behind a paywall. Is he claiming that this is THE cause of autism? Has he shared the evidence?

@flyingsquirrelsagogo

Here you go:

“Robert F Kennedy will reportedly claim that autism is caused by taking Tylenol during pregnancy.
Donald Trump’s health secretary launched an inquiry into the neurological condition, which is widely believed to be at least partially influenced by genetics.
The report into the apparent causes of autism, likely to be published this month by the US Department of Health and Human Services, will also point to low levels of the vitamin folate in pregnant women, insiders told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The folate known as folinic acid, or leucovorin, is largely used in the treatment of chemotherapy side effects and parasitic diseases.
The active ingredient in Tylenol is acetaminophen – sold in the UK under the name paracetamol.
Speaking during a lengthy cabinet meeting last month, Mr Kennedy said: “We’re finding interventions, certain interventions now that are clearly, almost certainly causing autism.
“And we’re going to be able to address those in September.”
Mr Trump responded by citing a rise in autism diagnoses, adding: “There has to be something artificially causing this, meaning a drug or something ... we’re going to do some things.”

They found a link between neurodivergence and Neanderthal genes, which we all have in varying percentages. Neanderthal genes also cause some physical problems which many ND people experience. I have a relatively high Neanderthal percentage, have adhd and autism and some related health problems.

How do you find out if you have Neanderthal genes?

On a thread from a few years ago the OP said that autism was more prevalent among premature babies. I wonder if it because of those drugs or the prematurity? Einstein was premature and likely autistic.
This was that thread I referred to.

You're focusing very much on schools, work, physical and system environments that are modern though

Humans are social animals, there are social norms, many of which are universal and although they vary to some degree culturally, they're still fairly similar across the species.

Some, if not the majority of people with ASD in particular struggle for example with empathy, social processing, sensory issues and social communication. Rigid black and white thinking is very common.

Those traits would stand someone out and often make them socially and romantically undesirable, a social outcast, disliked at the extreme end.

There are some who no doubt in ancient times, tudor times and Victorian times who will have thrived depending on their role and status in society. People like to throw around that Einstein must have been ASD as was Newton perhaps. But these are outliers, managed to find a way to utilise their focus and obsession etc. The average Bob or Harry trying to navigate through social structures with much more rigid rules for social engagement than now may well have struggled. To be isolated would have meant not eating, not working, not having any way to manage society around you. Modern times conversely have a lot more isolationist and individualist tones which mean some of that is easier for someone who struggles with social integration.

But craftsmen and all sorts of workers didn’t need to speak much and their work required attention to detail. Religion provided rules. Society was structured.

I had my Neanderthal percentage done by 23&Me, but they're no longer in business.

Why can’t they bring back Spitting Image

They don’t even have to write the script. Just enable dictation on a phone and Trump, JD, etc will write it for them

You couldn’t make it up

I think you have to look at this like a comedy show because that is what the USA has become.

Awaiting the next episode of the funniest show on tv
