Hi all, single parent here to my DD8 and dreaming of a "twixmas" getaway. Not sure if it will actually happen, but can anyone recommend places to go either UK (more realistic) or abroad? We are currently in South Yorkshire so if in the UK would probably not want to drive too far! Love the beach but thinking it would probably just be rainy and cold. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated 😊

I would go abroad. We live in a ‘tourist’ area and even here it’s dead and everything is shut that week. Unless you like the pub and windy, rainy walks, there isn’t much to do. London would be great, but I’d try somewhere further afield. Berlin? Copenhagen? Barcelona? If you can cope with the short days, Iceland is very interesting. I’ve been in January and it was like another world.

Thank you for commenting! I love the idea of going away! Just thinking budget wise it might be more realistic UK, but then its just so weather dependent here

I have gone to Portugal with my kids for the last three years after Christmas. A real budget break. Cheap flights and budget hotel. Love it. If you wait to the 2nd Jan to go you will get great deals

Portimâo. They have Christmas festivities right through to I think the 6th Jan. There was a free ice skating rink in the town square. Kids really liked it.

Spain, incl Canaries or Portugal are a great shout for early January, especially if you can be away on the evening of 5th January as that's the 3 Kings Eve in Spain at least which is great fun for DC.

Otherwise what about Scarborough? There's the indoor water park, amusements etc if the weather isn't good, you could also from Whitby to Pickering and back on the NY Moors railway. Weather might be OK, a couple of years ago I went to Whitby on something like 28th December, weather was quite mild and it was rammed, it was like everyone in Yorkshire and Teesside had the same idea.

Thanks for commenting! My daughter will be back to school then sadly!

But Scarborough is a shout! I don't know it too well but have been to Bridlington a couple of times! Have always fancied a trip to Filey too or Robin Hoods Bay! Just not sure whats open/closed around that time of year in these spots!
