What do I really look like?

In the mirror I look fine, then in the camera of my ipad I look like a picasso with my chin going one way, my nose the other and my eyes totally mismatched but a lot better on the camera of my phone and finally if I film myself or am on a facetime I look as I do in the mirror.

What is closest to what I really look like?

Try not to overthink it lovely, I’m sure you look great :)

we’ve all had those funhouse mirror wtf moments when catching ourselves looking awful 🫣 my mum has one of those magnifier flip mirrors and I was staying over and needed to pop a bit of concealer on and accidentally looked in the magnified side and GAAaaAAaah, the horror! 🙀😂

So would recommend avoiding them oh and also trying to flip your phone camera to take a picture of yourself (in my case with cute baby at a baby group while juggling them on my lap) as resulting photo may rival Jabba the Hut for number of chins and glorious plumpness of said chins (at least in my case) 😁

It's best not to think about it too much as I'm sure you look great. I always think that, i I actually looked like I do in some photos or when I catch a glimpse of myself from a weird angle, people would cross the road to avoid me. Possibly also crossing themselves to ward off evil! 😀

milkandblackspiders · 28/08/2025 20:45

I have no idea, but sometimes I look in the mirror and think I look ok, but then in a zoom meeting I've aged 20 years!

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 28/08/2025 20:48

I look lovely in the mirror.
In photos I look like a potato in a dress.
If I catch sight of myself in a shop window I look like my dad in a dress.

WasherWoman25 · 28/08/2025 21:18

I often think like the same! I said to my DH a few times, don’t you ever wish you could see someone in the street who looks exactly like you. Same size / shape etc so you could see what you look like to others. He was like, never crossed my mind 🤣 just look in a mirror, but it’s definitely not the same.

Somnambule · 28/08/2025 21:23

I feel the same - I think I look lovely in the mirror but dog rough in photos. I think it's something to do with the fact that your face isn't symmetrical (I don't just mean yours; nobody's is), so what you're used to seeing in the mirror is different to what you see in photos, and that difference is jarring.

Having said that, some people look gorgeous in real.life but shit in photos, and I've known very plain people who positively dazzle in photos. I tell myself I'm one of the former 😁

The thing that really upsets me is when I'm looking at the security camera footage of the garden and I see myself in it..
I had no idea that was how I walked and that's what I actually look like. And so dumpy!
I've never had a high opinion of myself but I feel I look passable most days when I look in the mirror. But security camera footage makes me feel absolutely dreadful about myself.

I once read that your camera on selfie mode is the closest to what you look like to others, I hope its true.
My face looks so strange in a photo, nose goes off one way, top left lip is loads smaller than top right lip which doesn't show whatsoever in the mirror and one of my eyebrows looks loads flatter than the other, I just hope I don't look like that to others!
Thankfully on selfie mode these things aren't so noticeable.

eurochick · 28/08/2025 22:19

Stop any film with a beautiful star at random while they are speaking. They will look dreadful. That’s what candid photos are like. Believe the mirror.

Damn. In selfie mode I always look anxious, exhausted and a bit pale and puffy. In the mirror I look fine!

I just tried this with a Scarlet Johansson interview. It didn't work. She looked amazing in every frame.

I think the same. I look ok and passable in the mirror, big confidence boost, then I see photos and I look like someone’s been having a laugh with a mr potatoe head and put the features all wonky.
I told DP I feel sorry for him having to look at me! I’m ugly as sin and fat. I’m glad I have a decent sense of humour it’s all I’ve got going for me!

Rollingdown · 28/08/2025 22:38

I can tell you you won’t look like your selfies I know of a delusional woman who posts photos of herself onto her Facebook she looks nothing like it at all when I saw her in real life it took me a second to realise who it was and only knew it was her because she told me. I think the worst part is that I’m not sure she realises but everyone else does

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/08/2025 22:39

It’s all about light and angles, hence the big changes.

borntoweardiamonds · 28/08/2025 22:42

I thought it was just me! 😅 Photos really hurt my feelings, so I’ve basically banned everyone from taking them, especially without my knowledge. 🙈😂 I go out feeling great and have a fabulous time, but then my mood is ruined by the pictures people take of me. I look at those photos and wonder, "Who on earth is that?" 😅 It really takes away from my enjoyment 🤣

reversegear · 28/08/2025 22:42

Imagine being a twin… you could actually see what you look like.

Rasell · 28/08/2025 22:43

It's scary, isn't it?!
I think you look one way in te mirror, one way on the camera and a differeway still in real life. You can buy reverse mirrors to see what others see. Im desperate for one but also terrified! Im sure youre gorgeous in any of them!

MsSmartShoes · 28/08/2025 22:55

I can’t bear to see any photo’s of me. Videos are better - unless I speak in them.

Justanotherdramalama · 28/08/2025 23:28

I would love to see myself as others see me. In photos and videos I look like the witch creature from the little mermaid.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 28/08/2025 23:30

Trust a mirror over a camera
