Has anyone missed big (good or bad) news due to not having their phone nearby or it being out of battery?

No, because I always have it nearby and charged.

No, but I can guarantee any important calls will come through just as I’ve gone into a Teams meeting!

I missed saying a final goodbye to my grandmother as I didn't have any reception. Not sure if that counts.

What sort of big news? The type that is life changing for you and knowing earlier would have allowed you to intervene for the better? Or just general news that you'll find out later or knowing earlier wouldn't have let you influence any way?

My phone is rarely uncharged but is on silent and I don't look at it for hours unless I'm expecting something. I can't think of anything major I have missed.

DH put do not disturb on my phone so when DB called to say my DDad was dying and I needed to come quick to the hospital I didn’t get it until 3 hours later when I woke up. Thankfully he held on and I was with him at the end.

I had a slight panic once as I had multiple missed calls when I was driving on the motorway do couldn't answer the phone.

My mother thought it was imperative that I knew that Prince Phillip had died.

A lot of people don’t have their phones glued to them.

Mine is locked in my classroom cupboard from 8.30-3.15pm. I may check it at lunchtime.

So yes I’ve missed lots of news texts immediately but I’ve not missed the announcement because it’s there when I get to look at my phone.

Many people who work all sorts of jobs will be in the same situation.

DH missed some calls about his mum when she was unwell as his phone was on silent.

Yes. I missed a call offering me a new build council house many years ago. It was in the town I lived in (posh) with very little social housing. I'd been on the list 11 years at that point. There were only 8 houses and they moved on to the next person on the list when I didn't take their call (out of signal).

I was beyond gutted. Ended up being taken off the list 2 years later after my DC turned 18 and I was no longer a priority.
