Pseudoephedrine in Spain?

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 28/08/2025 14:31

Can I take pseudoephedrine decongestant tablets with me to Spain or could I buy some there?

I’ve googled but it’s throwing up different answers. The AI overview says no it’s a banned substance and totally illegal but then I was looking at cold and flu tablets on an online Spanish pharmacy and they have pseudoephedrine as one of the main ingredients.

I think it’s probably best not to bring them with me but if this cold gets any worse I’m going to be utterly miserable if I can’t buy something effective.

This has just recently become a prescription only thing in Belgium. Maybe it's the same in Spain. I doubt they'd be completely banned in all cases.

I'd just take them with me
It's probably going to be obvious with a half used carton of a routine medication that you are only bringing it for personal use. Keep it in the box.
Looks like a prescription is needed for it there so definitely take your own if you will be miserable without it there

DH tried to buy some in France in May. I think it's a new EU thing to not be able to get it OTC.

I have no idea, but just take them if you really need them. Unless you are hugely suspect, no one is going to stop you and search your bag for cold tablets. I went to Spain recently and I took an entire bagful of medicine as currently going through cancer treatment, including codeine. No one had any interest in looking at my bag or my meds. I wouldn’t take it just in case, but if you are ill and actually need it, I’d just chuck it in your bag.

Get Frenadol—-
it’s turbo charged Lemsip and really does the job!

Thanks guys. I think I’m overthinking it as I know some places absolutely won’t let you have even a solitary Sudafed on you and I’d rather not get into any hassle at Customs.

@PinchOfVom I was looking at Frenadol, one of the versions has pseudoephedrine in. Good to know it’s decent thanks.

Oh seriously it’s fab! I always end up able to function but it gets me very hyper if I’m not at death’s door …. Use with caution!!
