I think Mac’s Ruby Woo is beautiful

Edited to say that I haven’t reached for it in years though! Some people can really pull it off and I think blondes tend to wear it without getting so much of a reaction, iyswim? I have dark hair, so paired with a full face of makeup and red lips it tends to look a bit too much.

Nowwhat01 · 28/08/2025 13:23

Plus one to Mac ruby woo - it’s long lasting too.

DollyMixers · 28/08/2025 13:25

came to say either Mac ruby woo (but other posters beat me to it) or Russian red, which is a bit more cool toned but very similar so depends which suits you more.

MyCatsSlave · 28/08/2025 13:25

Another vote for Mac Ruby woo, I go for the Mac Maximal as it’s matt but much easier to apply than the original

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 28/08/2025 13:30

yes - Mac Viva Heart (was Viva Glam I). It's sort of a vintagey red - deeper and softer than Ruby Woo, and IMO easier to wear for that.

idrinkandiknowthings · 28/08/2025 13:33

Always! Various shades of red but always red. I'm nearly 58 and will continue to wear it. I don't give a flying fanny fuck what people think.

Sunblocker · 28/08/2025 13:37

Every day when I’m not at work! My favourites are ‘Pop’ and ‘Fire’ by Victoria Beckham. So many red lipsticks have too much pink in them for me.

Mintbeecloud · 28/08/2025 13:37

It may be worth doing some colour-analysis and research on what colour palette complements your skin tone. Those with a cooler over/undertone may suit different types of red to those with warm over/undertones.

happygertie · 28/08/2025 13:39

I love an orangey red on holiday when I have a bit of a tan. I also love a true red lip with a minimal make up face, very Amanda De Cadenet in the
90’s

the80sweregreat · 28/08/2025 13:41

There was a ‘two for one’ offer on or something in boots and I picked up a red lippy by mistake. It’s ok, but it doesn’t really suit me much. It is quite dark though ! Red is a tough colour to wear.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/08/2025 13:47

Ruby woo is too drying for me. I need a warmer shade anyway, I know it's supposedly the neutral, "suits everyone" red but it doesn't really work on me. I'm just a bit too warm toned, I think. I need an orangey/rusty red. NARS red square (tragically discontinued) / MAC Lady Danger (great colour but v drying) / Lisa Eldridge Velvet Dragon are my go to brights. MAC Chili / MAC Warm Teddy (bit darker and loads warmer than classic Teddy which makes me look dead). Warm Teddy is more of a brown / tawny though. Mine are definitely more on the orange/copper end of the spectrum though, as it works best with my colouring.

Rosecoffeecup · 28/08/2025 14:38

I have tried so many shades but red always makes me look like I have a massive clown mouth. I wish I could pull it off.

Silverbirchleaf · 28/08/2025 14:39

I like an orangey red colour.

OfKitten · 28/08/2025 14:41

I am very pale and red lipstick makes me look dead

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 28/08/2025 14:41

The only one I can pull off is Revlon Rich Girl Red. It is sheer, build able and has warm undertones.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 28/08/2025 14:45

I like lost cherry by Charlotte Tilbury. Much less drying than Mac as well

404PageNotFound · 28/08/2025 15:02

Always! I have lots of different tones and depth of coverage depending on my mood.

zeddybrek · 28/08/2025 15:07

Yes but not anymore with regret!

My dream is to be that person who always has red lipstick on, I love it! I used to and never got back into the habit after COVID and now I feel too self conscious to suddenly start wearing such a statement look. It makes me feel so happy and it's a fun look IMO!

DanceDanceDance80 · 28/08/2025 18:29

Dior "Lucky" is my absolute favorite! Has a tint of pink to it, it's gorgeous 😍
