How to stop tears

i would be extremely grateful if anyone has any tips on this. If someone is rude to me or raises their voice, I can feel tears well up immediately. I’m in a person facing job and this affects my work occasionally. I want to overcome this.

Does anyone have any tips on how to control this? Techniques that work for them etc?

Thank you

Looking upwards without moving your head, so literally just tilting your eyeballs up towards your eyelashes, helps stop the physical act of tears falling.

Emotionally though it’s harder- I have ADHD and am also perimenopausal so my emotions are getting harder to control! But the eyeball tip has helped me more than once (although tbh these days I just let the emotion come through because I’ve spent my whole life hiding it and can’t be arsed anymore).

Yes, I’m a teary one too, and I love having a good cry but there are times when I need to hold back!

I can’t remember where I got this tip but if you press your tongue hard against the roof of your mouth it does seem to have an effect. You have to get in at the first prickle though, or it doesn’t work as well.

Good luck!

Use your nails to really pinch the soft bit of skin between your thumb amd finger as soon as you feel it coming on.

I think it helps because your brain is tol distratected my the pain!
