When I’m cooking, I watch TV on my iPad. I try to watch stuff that I know DH isn’t going to be interested in which, currently, is The Resident, on Netflix.
It’s a long-running series about a hospital in Atlanta, GA. The particular slant in this programme, unlike others such as ER, is the money side of healthcare in the US. Not just if patients are insured or not, but also the tactics used by hospitals - as businesses - to maximise their profits. So upselling tests and procedures, which may not be strictly medically necessary.
I’m sure that, like any TV drama, there’s an element of exaggeration, but it’s quite chilling to think that the first thought of the management is money/profit, rather than patients’ health.
