They are excellent this year. Collected enough for about 4 crumbles this evening. But no one else out picking them…. Is it an old fashioned thing?

No blackberries up here where I am, they’ve all seem to have died early

TheLette · 27/08/2025 09:49

None worth picking in south London! Tried last weekend. No jam for us 😭

Back from picking the berries this morning...there was quite a lot to pick which were ripe but many still not even ready yet for the picking. Going out again with one of the DC who loves picking the berries with me every year. He should be lucky to pick plenty in a few days. I estimate another week or so before they die off.

I'm in Scotland.

Yep, we did last week! And made a bloody lovely crumble

Should people be taking kgs of them? Don't the birds rely on them?

I dropped many this morning so I am helping with animals getting some on the ground.

We’ve got trillions in Kent at the moment. I’m a saddo I’ve been freezing boxes of them and giving them to friends.

I missed this year as we were on holiday. Last few years we have done it.

RedwallMattimeo · 27/08/2025 17:27

The ones near us have basically cooked on the brambles. They were delicious a few weeks ago but we used them as we picked them. I was planning on getting more for the freezer this week but, given the state of them, there’s no point.

Curiossir · 27/08/2025 17:32

Blackberries, bullaces, plums, pears, etc. Sloes not quite ready yet. It's a good harvest so far!

EstherGreenwood63 · 27/08/2025 19:43

Yes! Me and him indoors went at the weekend. A great haul...

Memberofstaff · 27/08/2025 19:57

Tons of them! Not too many left near me now. Been picking since end of July.

I have picked tonnes and there are plenty more to go where I am, the gin & vodka are brewing and I’ve frozen loads for blackberry & apple cake, I absolutely love fruit picking, I am just a bit sad it’s in August, I really want to hold onto this amazing summer

I’m in London and the best blackberries here were late July! Climate change…

Near London and they’re all finished! I made jam and liqueur, which I’m getting through at a rate of knots. I drove a mere half an hour north this week and there were still loads on the bushes. Very odd. When I was picking them weeks ago, a lady passing was extremely excited that I was blackberrying!
