We have a glut of tomatoes and not enough decent jars so I popped to the only open shop - BM- and they had these jars.

will these be ok?

They don’t have a safety button

I will wash and sterilise int he oven and boil the lids and with parchment circle (no wax seals)

how does this sound?

Yes, fine. Tighten the lids when the chutney is still warm and they will seal as it cools.

Do I need a parchment disc?

I use old jam jars and rarely use parchment discs. As long as your jars are properly sterilised, and you put the lids on while still warm, all should be fine.

On a related note ..I have hundreds of v small but nice apples. Too small to eat just as a snack but thought I could maybe make something with them...like an apple and something chutney or pickle. Any ideas?

I used these from BM and they were fine, I don’t use wax disks for chutney just jams I don’t know why but that’s what my mum did so that’s what I do. Put the lid on tight while the chutney is still warm and they will seal fine
