Does anyone use this as a sedative, as opposed to treating hives or allergies? If so, how long before bedtime do you take it? I took 50mg last night, twenty minutes before turning in, as directed on the leaflet and I was still mentally and physically wide awake over an hour later. The stuff was still in my system about twelve hours later at 9.30 this morning. It seems to take a lot longer than twenty minutes for it to begin to work. I've similarly used amitriptyline in the past and that needs to be taken two or three hours before bedtime.

Thankyou.

I do, but never have a reaction like you have had.

I know (from giving anti allergy medication to my daughter) that some meds just don’t work in the same way with some people. She doesn’t get sleepy with kids Benadryl.

In a similar way, caffeine doesn’t wake me up. I could have 3 espressos and go for a nap straight after.
