Sent my review form back in July 2024. Received 3 x 3 monthly texts of we still have your form. July 2025 text from Capita you have a phone assessment . Phone assessment lasted 45minutes. 6 days later Received a text from dwp we have your assessment. 8 days later text to say review was completed and to wait for award letter. 8days later letter arrived with higher mobility award and the letter stated we may owe you some money and we will write back to you. 2 weeks later Received backdated payment in my bank which had been backdated to July 2024. Hope this helps anyone who is worried as it can be a long process.

Good news, it must be stressful with all the waiting.

@Lennonjingles yes it can be very stressful as you are always thinking the worst.

That question was not applicable to me as I manage my own medication

Yes, side effects. Like if you took mirtazapine to help you sleep then you could say it makes you drowsy in the mornings, it takes a while to wake up properly, I find it hard to do xyz. Etc. that's just an example obviously.

That is very efficient. I applied for my DD who turned 16 in March. Told her DLA changes to pip. Applied in April. Telephone assessment early August for 90 minutes. Told it will take 8 weeks before we hear again. Thankfully they are still paying DLA not sure what to expect for PIP hoping she gets something to help her.

Thank you for the info that's helpful.

I had my telephone assessment with PIP on Thursday (13/11) afternoon , after hearing allot of awful stories I was quite pleased that my assent was in fact very caring and compassionate. Assessment lasted approximately a hour and 15 minutes and at the end she said that she is going to push for an award for me. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Hi the lady also said this to me she was called Caroline. Have you hurd back yet? I had my assessment a week ago Tomorrow.

DinoLil · 09/12/2025 19:22

Mine took a year from sending the review evidence back to the telephone appointment in September. I had a text the same day to say the review had been received and a phone call the next day to say it had been approved, my claim was now on the higher rate and I was due back payment.

I could have had the back payment that same day but they were concerned about my lack of financial management. I said I'd get advice, I did, they phoned me a week later and the back payment was in my account that day.

OH has been waiting over 20 months for his. It’s been a catalogue of errors, the lady he spoke with originally has contradicted herself throughout the report. They also wrote to the wrong hospital dept for a report, understandably they replied and said they had no idea why he’d claim PIP for the condition they were dealing with. They used that as evidence rather than thinking maybe neurology would be the best people to speak with based on his reason for applying rather than urology for a kidney stone 🙄.
It’s now going through tribunal via a social prescriber who is baffled by the whole thing but is very on the ball and lovely.

FusionChefGeoff · 13/01/2026 19:55

@shakethatshimmy that sounds so frustrating and so easily solved if someone just applied a bit of common sense!

Do you still get the money whilst you’re waiting for them to sort out their mess??

Im about to start helping a friend with MS who has received her first review form and

FusionChefGeoff · 13/01/2026 20:00

Oh where did the rest of it go?!

I also asked if you have any other tips or websites so I can get up to speed on the process / approach before we start on the form

Hedjwitch · 13/01/2026 20:00

Its a really difficult process. DH applied and was awarded the lower amount despite very poor mobility, heart failure etc. We appealed and this week got a letter not only rejecting the appeal but reducing the initially agreed amount!
Back to appeal we go. Again. Meanwhile the stress spirals DH deeper into depression and puts more stress on his heart.

Goodness, could you manage without the money? Seems a high price to pay on DH health :(

Ileithyia · 13/01/2026 20:03

I’m about to send my review form back, does it really take a year for them to make a decision? I’m so anxious they are going to take mine away, waiting a year will be so stressful.
