Should I check him in as per the booking?

Travelling today.

One Ds has decided not to come. Ryanair. I need to check in. Do I check him in anyway just in case he changes his mind? If we turn up having checked him in online will there be a problem?

Also I paid for a suitcase next to his name. So I can’t use that suitcase allocation?

I ask because Ryanair try to get extra money wherever possible.

You/he might as well check-in and then no show.

They can't resell the ticket - there's no way to tell them that he's not coming so it's fine if he just doesn't turn up.

You can't use his suitcase allocation as it needs to be carried/checked in by him.

landlordhell · 26/08/2025 07:09

What a pain in the bum! Can he not deal with this mess? I would contact Ryanair ( which won’t be fun) to be clear.

Why would you bother contacting Ryanair? There's no scope for refund and it's no different from someone arriving late at the airport and missing their flight. It makes no difference to the airline.

Because I’d want to be sure. It doesn’t always cut it to say someone on Mumsnet told me.

What would be the downside to checking him in, it allows for changing his mind and it's not like they are going to sit and wait for him if he doesn't

Coconutter24 · 26/08/2025 07:16

Check him in just incase he changes his mind. If he doesn’t show you won’t get the seat or suitcase allowance

I bet a lot of drama has preceded this thread

Sure of what? Ryanair already has their money. Are you worried the OP will get told off if her travel companion checked in but doesn't show!

Oh yes ofc. Check my previous posts.

I’m not looking for a refund. I know that is never the case with Ryaniair. I am just concerned about any repercussions on me and my wallet of his not turning up.

Maybe too late now, but we had a similar situation earlier this year - booked for 4 with 2 cases but 2 of us couldn’t travel. I messaged Ryanair on the live chat before checking in and they swapped the luggage allowance over so we could still take both bags (no extra charge). So contrary to what people always say about Ryanair, I found them very helpful!

I’d rather not as I suspect quite depressing

Hope you at least have a decent holiday

LittleFriendSusan · 26/08/2025 07:35

We didn’t check the other 2 in - I think they remained on the booking but just didn’t tick their names when checking in.

What do you think would happen if he simply doesn't turn up?

CatBooksWineInThatOrder · 26/08/2025 07:47

My husband and I were checked in for a Ryanair flight earlier this year and we missed it - we got a puncture half an hour away from the airport. The flight still left on time, we hadn’t checked our luggage in so no reason for it not to. Our scenario is really no different to you checking your son in and him not going.

tanstaafl · 26/08/2025 08:09

Check him in.
you can always tell the staff at the gate that he was arriving under his own steam but he’s just called to say he can’t make it.

This, then you can tell them what you want when you get there.

I’d be checking if there was anything I could do re luggage or if they could offer anything. Rules change and update all the time.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 26/08/2025 08:39

Definitely don’t call them - calls to Ryanair cost around 15p a minute, so you’ll have spent more than the cost of the flight before you get though to them! If you want to try and reallocate the paid for luggage allowance then maybe try the webchat, but I wouldn’t hold my hopes up. Unless you need the extra luggage I wouldn’t bother doing anything. Check him in and leave it at that!

Offer anything?

offer… what?

Swapping the bag to one of their names I guess. I'd try the live chat for that though like a pp said. I don't think they offer as much flexibility in person as it may give other people ideas. But let us know how you get on OP.

Presumably a refund, or maybe to swap the baggage allowance to someone who is travelling.

lurchersforever · 26/08/2025 09:24

Love how the ds has refused the holiday last minute yet Ryanair are somehow the bad guys.
