Was put on this for stomach ache issues. Never had a formal diagnoses, doctors just say maybe GERD, maybe functional dispepsia. Main symptoms permanent pain in the solar plexus area that gets bad on and off throughout the day and excess burping.

All sorts of medications tried before, omzoprazole etc so Dr suggested this medication..

Well, I take it around 9-9.30pm..by 11pm my stomach ends up in agony. I also get dizziness, nausea and my appetite has gone! Like, zero. Having to force myself to eat, I calorie count anyway so know I've been sitting at 800-1000 calories but try more and I feel sick.

I've tried it for 3 weeks, thinking I might need to get used to it but couldn't deal with the side effects so stopped.

Are these "normal" symptoms, should I have carried on? It wasn't actually stopping my permanent stomach ache and if anything giving me more frequent bad stomach aches.

That sounds just like when I had gastritis. I couldn't eat and I had bad stomach ache and wooziness. The doctor prescribed me a high dose of Lansoprazole for a few weeks then dropped the dose and I came off it. It took about 8 weeks to heal. I had tried famotidine but it didn't work and the dr said it wasn't strong enough to deal with gastritis.
If I were you I'd go back to the doc and ask to try a higher dose of a PPI and see if that helps.
I was referred to gastroenterology, I had an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis, but that was because there is a history of stomach illness in the family.

I was on famotidine for reflux and it didn’t do much for me either, but I didn’t get the appetite crash you’re describing. If it’s making things worse and not even touching the main pain, that’s a good reason to stop and go back to your doctor.

I've been on all the PPIs at high doses to no effect, and have had an endoscopy and there was no evidence there to explain the pain and excess bloating and gas. Doctors are stumped, I've had sooooo many tests!

I was just diagnosed with kidney disease, so needed to limit gaviscon advance usage (the only pain relief that does work) so this medication was suggested as an attempt to solve the pain and allow me not to use gaviscon. Clearly didn't work.

Forget WLI, these tablets have contributed to me losing a stone in 3 weeks. Great, as I've been trying to lose weight but I also enjoy eating and want to be able to WANT to eat (if that makes sense)

I think I'll speak to the doctor again.

Famotidine made me feel like I'd been eating fizzy refresher sweets all day so I can see how if I had stayed on them I would have felt nauseous too.

Omeprazole gave me awful nausea and cramps and I lost my appetite. I would eat but enjoy nothing.

I've given up on it all and living with the silent reflux they diagnosed.

I hope you get some respite.
