Advice about Hampshire

I am looking to move to Hampshire area, or W Sussex, no closer than 45 minutes drive from Horsham (complicated reasons). Budget up to 800,000 max, three beds with a sizeable garden and semi rural or having that feel if possible. I would like something with period features or a bit interesting if possible, but probably not in that budget. Must be detached.

I don't know hampshire at all and am moving quite a distance. Looking for a town or village with lots to do, access to lovely countryside, low crime and some cultural stuff if possible. I had considered Winchester but know it's very expensive. Don't need to consider work or schools so can be very flexible.

I would welcome some advice!

You could try Haslemere or Godalming in Surrey or Petersfield in Hampshire. Petersfield slightly more than 45 minutes from Horsham.

I know Godalming quite well. Just don't want to be in a commuter town, but somewhere with its own character and appeal if that makes sense.

It’s not as quick to get from Hampshire to Horsham as you have to go across A272 and most places that meet your criteria are over an hour away.

Id look around Chichester area - that’s about 45 minutes away on A27/24.

of you want Hampshire in particular you are looking much further north but those areas aren’t as good as Winchester/Romsey etc

I’d recommend east/west Meon but that’s over an hour.

Farnham and godalming area are lovely but are Surrey. Chichester is also nice. Avoid the Pompey area and Southampton but around Winchester like alresford, Twyford, Shawford or chandler's ford may be cheaper than the city centre itself. Alternatively head to the new forest and nip along the M27 but that's further away.

Have you looked at Midhurst?

Am I right you want to be at least 45 mins away? How intriguing!

Actually Midhurst is only 40 mins - on paper - so I would look at Petersfield.

There’s some lovely areas in Portsmouth and Southampton and inbetween. Drayton, Farlington, chandlers ford to name a few.

And it’s not easy to nip along M27 at all currently. Most of its 50mph and constant accidents. It takes me 35 minutes to get from just outside Portsmouth to Ashurst and that’s when it’s clear!

Well it ticks a lot of your boxes although I'm not sure about culture but it definitely has character and attractive properties.
