Name change after marriage

Morning everyone. We got married in May and I need to change my name, I am keeping my middle name but taking his surname and dropping mine, not double barrel. Is my marriage certificate enough to just change it or do I need deed poll? I'm confused as my marriage name is in my surname as you sign it with you current name so how is this proof of new name? Is there an official way to change it or do I just now go by new name and tell banks etc? Thank you

You don't need to change your name, you're choosing to.

Your marriage certificate is enough.

Thank you. Sorry, I should've written *want to not need to, don't worry I'm not being pinned down against my will to change my name by a controlling husband.

I am completely and utterly confused by your pist and also the first reply.

Do you mean for example that your name was Julia Mary Jones and you wish to take your partner's last name which is Smith, therefore becoming Julia Mary Smith?

I recall that my marriage certificate was sufficient for everything from bank accounts, utilities and my passport.

It is a choice to take your partner's name and one I was pleased to take. There was no obligation, I wanted to.
