Cake identification

I’ve just had a flashback of a cake from my childhood. Although I can’t remember where I would have bought it and/or eaten it.

It’s a dark brown fruit cake, dense and heavy, but soft on the inside, possibly almost gooey. Not like Christmas cake. Possibly has sugar on the top.

Does anyone have any idea what I mean?

(I’ve been away from the UK a long time in case this is something really obvious)

Bread pudding?

Second one has it! @FurForksSake Bread pudding! Not bread and butter pudding, which google suggested.

MN is great 😁

Soreen is also amazing @PinkCosYouAreSoVery

It was always something they did at bakeries, stodgy squares with sugar on top.

Ooh love bread pudding. My mom.used to make it..think.it was stale bread , lard-yikes, dried fruit and sugar sprinkled on the top. The bread was soaked in liquid, left to drain on the colander and then everything was mixed together. It was vhesp and filling.
