What are you eating today?

I've very unwisely read a few diet threads today, so am counteracting them with my weird food intake (all my days are weird, if MN threads are anything to go by).

Diet freaks, massive salad protesters and orthorexics have at it! Feel free to parade your self-denial, rigid rules or gigantic carb-fests 🙂

4 oat breakfast bars
2 squashed-fruit and nut 'protein' bars
One banana
Pastrami, salad & tomatoes on two rounds of seedy bread
One 25g chocolate bar
Prawn and couscous thing I invented, contains veg
I will have a 400g punnet of strawberries, maybe with yoghurt
Possibly another mini choc bar
And a plate of oven chips before bed.

The breakfast bars are a new thing for me, and a current fad. I'm going to try making my own tomorrow: if they turn out OK, I'll make enough to last until the fad wears off!

Scrambled egg on 1slice of seeded toast, crisps, pasta with kidney beans, sweetcorn and tomato sauce, 2 yogurts, 2 flat nectarines cheese sandwich

GarlicLitre · 23/08/2025 15:38

You're very restrained, @Mummykatxx. Beans & sweetcorn sounded strange to me, so I checked - its a complete protein. Clever!

I'll have to end my breakfast bar fad early. Thought my oat allergy had gone away, but it's back: yesterday's binge must've been too much.

Bacon sandwich at about midday
M&S red pepper pita chips and a chocolate cookie
Dinner is Tuscan chicken with mash - wine later too, no doubt

Today so far:
2 boiled eggs, one slice granary toast
one nectarine
a mixed green juice thing at local cafe - kale, cucumber, apple
packet of hula hoops with cheddar cheese.
Am going out this evening so probably 2-3 glasses of wine, and whatever is available

whatwasthatnoise · 23/08/2025 15:53

B: toast and marmalade, yoghurt, plum, 2 cups decaf tea
Snack: M&S cafe pot of tea, packet of wotsits.
L: 1 slice of toast with a tin of mackerel in tomato sauce. Apple. Nectarine. Pepsi max cherry.
Snack: cup of decaf tea. Half a peppermint slice and half a mini Victoria sponge.
D: will be venison in red wine sauce, potato dauphinoise, green beans. Wine.
Before bed: probably more decaf tea, and the other half of the cakes.

Upset tummy due to this morning's two oat bars, so I haven't eaten 'properly'. Grazed on: one squashed-fruit bar, an apple, a banana, some strawberries, pastrami on bread (no salad), oven chips, yoghurt.

@whatwasthatnoise, I've not had venison for ages! If I hadn't just done a big shop, you'd definitely have prompted me to put it on the list. How did yours turn out?

Iceland tempted me to do my shopping there (online) with a Prosecco for £1 offer 🍾 Code is BH-FIZZ. I don't know if their offers are tied to specific accounts, but could be worth a try! Free delivery, too (£40 basket).

@GarlicLitre it was delicious! I managed to cook the venison perfectly, still a bit pink in the middle. Clean played all round.
Make sure you put venison on your shipping list next week. I bought some from Lidl yesterday.

Right well so far coffee….

no idea and it’s stressing me out. I am antisocial at the best of times but cant miss MIL’s big birthday party in the pub. So its dinner late afternoon….. we normally eat about 7pm. I’m also a coeliac so going to an unknown pub who were not helpful when i asked what my options might be.

If I get glutened I will be poorly for 3+ weeks and it will ruin the end of the kids summer holiday.

I’d happily hide in bed with M&S gluten free cheese crackers, some cheddar and veg sticks.

Thelosthalfathought · 24/08/2025 07:35

Venison is indeed delicious! Did not realise Lidl sold it.

My favourite is dauphinoise potatoes could eat just a plate of that!

Myblueclematis · 24/08/2025 07:36

Mug of strong ground coffee when first up, just had grilled fresh tomatoes on sourdough toast. Cup of tea in a few minutes. Will have a fruit and kefir smoothie around 1pm and then I've taken a curry out the freezer for tonight.

I'd like to think I won't eat anything after that but I bet I will ... 🙄

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 24/08/2025 07:46

I don’t really do meals as such just snacks. I pretty much always preplan my days’s eating and today I will be having:
Linda McCartney veggie mozarella burger
2 M&S seeded flatbreads
half a red onion
individual pot of Jude’s strawberry ice cream
some blackberries
five squares of Cadbury mint crisp chocolate
bowl of frosties with skimmed milk
juice of one orange
two After Eights

On a diet so 800ish calories it is! A temporary affair, but bloody working so far, huge thanks to the late Dr Michael Mosley.

Fasting until lunchtime, but will likely have a black coffee.
Lunch is portobello mushrooms loaded with tomato, herbs and mozzarella; some green bits and bobs if still hungry. White Americano.
Dinner is out at a gig so taking a home-made protein-packed peanut butter and cacao smoothie.

Yesterday had a mushroom and spinach frittata for lunch, and dinner was teriyaki salmon with a stir fry of onions, courgettes and savoy cabbage. I had a little piece of very dark chocolate with my white americano at lunch.

GarlicLitre · 24/08/2025 12:42

I do hope MIL's party worked out as more enjoyment than anxiety, @Thelosthalfathought.

Still have a sore tummy but I'm hungry and mindful of yesterday's protein deficit ... I'm thinking an omelette with tofu should be soothing and nutritious.
