TMI graphic photo warning - what is this that came out of me?

Apologies in advance but I’m quite worried and really don’t know where else to ask and I’m rather concerned. So I thought I was on what I thought was my period for the last few days (nothing different to usual). I’m on the combined pill but forgot to take a few days so assumed that triggered a bleed. But I felt this come out (just thought it was blood) even though I had a tampon in which hadn’t been in that long and when I went to the toilet and checked this was in my underwear. I’ve never seen anything like this and am wondering what on earth it is, it feels/looks like flesh. Wasn’t painful and haven’t had any different cramping to usual. I had a baby 5 months ago don’t know if that makes any difference but everything was normal and I’ve had no issues simce.

Not seen the picture yet but maybe it’s a decidual cast (sp)

totally fine but I can imagine your horror / fascination

This could be it, I have googled it says it can be caused by starting/stopping contraceptive so that would make sense! I haven’t had severe pain or heavier than Nora like bleeding though. It’s got me baffled

Looks like part of a decidual cast. More of a warning there may be more…

RedNine · 22/08/2025 09:53

I agree decidual cast is likely.

jovij · 22/08/2025 09:55

Thanks! Do you think I need to see a GP (I hope not) as I’ve looked online and advice on whether to seek medical advice is mixed.

Finally seen the pic and it looks like a decidual cast.

I am not sure about need for GP unless you have pain or signs of infection (smell, temperature etc)

But I am NOT a medic. My only rationale is that you already know you were off timetable with your contraceptives and you have sort of identified what it is and you are not in pain.

Hope you are ok? That would freak me out completely!

growinguptobreakingdown · 22/08/2025 10:07

@jovij on the NHS app can request appts online and add a photo. You could do that and ask in the text if you need to be seen if that is available to you?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/08/2025 10:11

Our PSHEE lessons specifically include explaining a decidual cast to girls because so many of us have experienced the same without knowing what they were. It's only in very recent years that there has been any discussion of them - one of the benefits of the Internet, imo, as whilst it's been described as a rare phenomenon, even in an anecdotal form (bringing the subject up in the first place for all but two women in a group ranging from 18 to 76 to agree that yes, they've had them at least once), they are far, far more common than was thought.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 22/08/2025 10:35

This happened to me twice about 30 years ago! I had no idea this was a thing, I have thought about it often over the years, I was 18 and naïve and suffered really bad with heavy periods and crippling pain, I just thought it was normal 😮

boxofbuttons · 22/08/2025 10:47

Def looks like a decidual cast to me - I was very alarmed when it happened! I did see a doctor and they didn't seem overly concerned but maybe ring your GP anyway?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/08/2025 10:51

What’s a decidual cast?. Hope you’re ok OP. Thank god for Mumsnet as I would be freaking out.

jovij · 22/08/2025 11:21

Yes thank god for Mumsnet! I was panicking but feel re-assured now. I had never heard of it before now and was thinking all sorts of worrying things. Thanks everyone 😊
