I know these threads can be super annoying but I’m curious to know what age child you think produced the following drawing and writing. As a hint, this isn’t a stealth boast - I’m concerned they are behind…

Might have to wait for the photos…

And this represents their best effort

I think a 7 or 8 year old with bad handwriting. As a nerd who has always had bad handwriting I thought the space marine was good, I could tell what it was straight away.

RedNine · 21/08/2025 20:53

Aww I have filled up at the sweet message to daddy 😭

One of mine was at a similar stage at age 8. Mixing up capitals and lower case letters, part finished words, plausible phonic spelling.

dontcomeatme · 21/08/2025 20:53

6 or 7?

R0ckandHardPlace · 21/08/2025 20:53

I’m not even joking here, that looks identical to my son’s handwriting. He’s 27, and has a good job (accountant) but his handwriting is shocking!

Lighttodark · 21/08/2025 20:53

6-8 years

Same here.

Very similar to the handwriting of my adult son! Thankfully his job doesn't involve writing anything by hand.

7 or 8? Writing is a bit messy, but something about it (and the message) tells me it comes from quite an intelligent child.

Corfumanchu · 21/08/2025 20:58

4

4-5

ToddlerSleep · 21/08/2025 21:01

That’s a lovely message! I would say age 7.

Domino211 · 21/08/2025 21:01

8 or 9? Both my DSs have rubbish handwriting and zero artistic skills but hasn’t held them back!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 21/08/2025 21:01

I was going to say about 7 but it’s a long time since mine were primary aged and it’s hard to remember exactly where they were at. But that looks like something they’d have produced in maybe year 2 in terms of the content, though Dd1 had very neat hand writing, dd2 not so much.

Bournetilly · 21/08/2025 21:02

7

That would be incredibly impressive for a 4 year old as at this point in the year 4 year olds haven’t even started school!!

Overthebow · 21/08/2025 21:03

I’m going to say 7-8 because of the words and things like the th in 44th, and the capital letters. The actual handwriting though id be guessing 5.

confusedlots · 21/08/2025 21:05

I would say 6 for the inside of the card. The front of the card and the picture more like a 7 year old.

Catsandcwtches · 21/08/2025 21:06

Similar to my nine year old in style but better spelling. He is behind, he’s on the Sen register. What does your child’s teacher think? They are the one to ask

mynameiscalypso · 21/08/2025 21:08

The drawing on the front is definitely better than my 6 year old could do. The writing is about the same in terms of neatness but that’s a much more thoughtful message than my DS would write.

GazeboLantern · 21/08/2025 21:10

I would say a bit older; at least 10, from the language.

None of my dc have good handwriting. One had to do his GCSEs and As on laptop with rest breaks because his handwriting was illegible. It would have taken him at least 10mins to write that card so legibly and he would have been exhausted at the end.

He's off to uni in Sep.

HappyLittleAGR · 21/08/2025 21:11

Maybe 6?

ArmadilloRed · 21/08/2025 21:12

Ah he’s 12, almost 13. About to go into Y8! He’s a very sweet boy though and made this for his stepdad.

I take it this is from an older child and you don’t believe their ability is on par for their age?

TimetoGetUpNow · 21/08/2025 21:15

I was going to say similar to what my teens would produce! They wrote much better when they were aged 7/8 than they do now. They probably wouldn’t make spelling mistakes though.
