Tax on main property

Apparently Reeves is considering charging people tax on their main property if it's worth £500k or more.

It got me thinking. Landlords are being forced out of the rental market due to changes in renters rights, so corporate landlords are buying houses up in the UK. My worry is that more and more taxes are applied to private property so that homeowners will end up forced to sell and then the landlord company will rent the house back to them. Only the rich will be able to own houses. I can't see Reeves plan not being extended.

No

It would be tax if and when property is sold
Possibly replacing stamp duty

So it would mean homeowners less likely to sell

It would make no sense to sell up would it?

The other proposal is a property tax replacing council tax

So is a bit more nuanced and only proposals

Why would you sell up ?
