Found it countrygirl. All women and children and a very supportive community (and a posh village contrary to where MN and co think they all are!) - hopefully they will be left in peace.

BIossomtoes · 23/08/2025 10:40

Thank God for that. I was starting to worry about myself as I read it but perhaps it’s Fraser who should be worried!

I don't agree with everything he says, I don't know if it is as simple to change the 1951 Refugee Convention as he says or and there is no mentioning of other solutions like safe and legal routes

@Piggywaspushed ours is in a village a bit to the North of Bedford where my boys went to Upper School. We've got Yarls Wood in the other direction. Mayor is a knob in such a multicultural town. About the only good thing is he let's horse riders ride a non PROW link 2 bridleways on his farm.

Very nice 😁.
I'm also a cat owning, regular church going (choir member) atheist. Singing the weekend services at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle later in October.
Experience would suggest that quite a few church choir members are closet atheists 🤣

I’m very excited because we are singing evensong in Westminster Abbey on Thursday. I’m republican as well as atheist and yet…

Notonthestairs · 23/08/2025 11:10

I assume when Nelson writes about pre vetting asylum seekers what he meant were EU based asylum applications centres overseen by the HO. Something which would go towards curtailing the profits made by gangs.

As for re-writing the Convention, I’m unclear how that would work in practice- we accept elements of the Convention but not all? Withdrawal from the Convention but not the Protocol?

It is sensible within the bounds of the discussion as framed by the right wing. However I’m uncomfortable with anything that suggests asylum seekers arriving by boat are the cause of all ills. Plus anyone who thinks Reform or Tommy Ten Names would be any less vocal and manipulative about pre approved asylum seekers is woefully naive about the beliefs of such people.
Panic about ‘the boats’ shouldn’t even be a thing, beyond wanting to stop people risking death.

Evenstar · 23/08/2025 11:15

Love the guy selling them their own flags back @DuncinToffee 😂

Meanwhile in a town near me 🙄

I agree but we are where we are. Stop the Boats on podia for months on end made it inevitable.

Yes that's the one I found!

The Mayor is in general a knob.

It seems a shame the narrative can’t be changed, but with the media as it is I guess it’s pretty impossible.

I dont want ‘it’ as it stands, and I am married to a person who is ‘non-white’.

I am also not a racist.

Totally predictable reply.

Goldenbear · 23/08/2025 11:25

According to the Comments section of the local paper, the flags will not be placed in the 'Commie' areas of the city.

Notonthestairs · 23/08/2025 11:28

The narrative isnt really stop the boats.

It's vote for me and you'll pay no/less tax.

Migration is a handy fig leaf for people who dont think their 'hard earnt' cash should be spent on anything other than the services they buy directly.
Less spent on council tax, less roadworks, less on state education, less on bins, less on policing, less on state health services. And for Gods sakes lets repeal anything that 'hampers' employers.

The same people that pushed the Truss budget as the bestest bigliest budget ever see migration as their way in.

As far as I am concerned, nothing is set in stone. That's how religions get away with shite for millennia.

What is stopping all the signatories from getting together and revising it if that is what they all want ?

I dont disagree - I just dont understand the mechanics of it.

Well that's makes two if us. However it's the correct and civilised way to do it.

Really, for a parenting site, we should all know how you need to establish and maintain boundaries. And these right wing shills are pushing every conceivable one.

I think there might be whole families there. I did see mum and dad and kid groups out for a walk but that was a good while back. The WI there were very welcoming and encouraged the women to come along when it first started but sadly that group folded.

I wonder if she'll be guest of honour at Yaxley-Lennon's September knees up for the racists?

I’d say it’s a racing certainty. Imagine being the poster girl for racists.

Especially after fighting the fact you’ve been branded a racist and claiming you’re just an innocent bereaved parent who posted hastily by mistake.

placemats · 23/08/2025 12:53

Obviously reported that goady thread and it's thankfully been hidden. Two factors involved both blatant. Racism and misogyny.

The far right want control of your white skinned working ovaries - but only if you are under 30 and over the age of consent.

It seems a shame the narrative can’t be changed, but with the media as it is I guess it’s pretty impossible.

Now that Reform propaganda has wormed its way into mainstream news outlets, it is very difficult to see how Starmer can turn the tide and communicate any 'good' news stories (stories those turning to Reform want to hear), everything is tainted from the get go. Politics today does just appear to be about a war of illusory truths; where the bombardment of information makes you feel like the White Queen in Through the Looking Glass, "I’ve believed as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast”! That said, I don't think it's inevitable but the communication strategy is key to resistance, particularly if you want to capture the votes of the under 25s.

I was really shocked at how pervasive social media is on my youngest teen's outlook, her friends are the same and they will all be voting in the next election.

This taxpayer is fine with it, as long as work is being done to speed up.claims, collaborate internationally and attack people trafficking at source (and it is). The likes of you don't speak for me.

Edited

Allow me to return the compliment.

I'm not your secretary.

No such post exists, you really meant to say.

'Taxpayers money' is a sure sign of a person who believes in far right ideology. Just saying.

Goldenbear · 23/08/2025 13:20

My eldest is different as he has just finished A levels and one of his subjects was Politics, he is constantly reading around the subject, has an amazing insight (I would say that I'm his Mum 😀)and crucially has that youthful optimism so he doesn't view it in the same way as me, he hasn't got the past memories to compare it with!
