Is going to the gym 2x a week worth it for 45 minutes?

I’m just restarting my fitness journey after a difficult pregnancy/c section recovery. I used to do 12-15k steps a day and 4-5x gym classes a week. I’m starting to get my steps back up and can manage 2x 45 minute gym classes a week. Before, the gym definitely accelerated my weight loss as it was a decent amount a week but is 2 x 45 minute sessions a week worth it? Will it make much of a difference? One is cardio and one is weights.

Of course it will.

Yes, especially if you’re doing classes and are being pushed by then teacher and yourself.

Yes of course, mixed with walking you will definitely see an improvement in your fitness

Could you make it 2 weight sessions a week at the gym and just get cardio outside of the gym? To start with. Weight training will surely make the bigger difference.

CalmShaker · 20/08/2025 21:25

If it's going to get you back into the routine it's definitely worth it. For real results to show though (and for value financially) 3/4 sessions would be better.

I’ve just signed up and in my induction she said if you are getting cardio elsewhere then just use the gym for weights.

Fitness is not binary, anything is better than nothing.

I can only make 2 of the scheduled classes a week and these are what they are, I’m not choosing the class per se.

Cant you just go to the gym and do your own thing ? Does it have to be classes?

Of course 😁😁💪🏻💪🏻

Going is always better than not going! But I’d look into what you can do at home as it’s sometimes easier to fit in. I work out six days a week or so but almost entirely from home, I would probably manage barely half of that if I had to rely on scheduled classes that fitted into my life. Given you have a fitness history, you can probably apply your knowledge and previous experience to at home workouts to get some extra work in when you have free time. If you have dumbbells you can easily do full weight workouts at home.

I have a Peloton now and use all their stuff (cardio, weights, yoga etc) but before that I used a lot of free stuff on YouTube that was good quality. Or a Les Mills sub is petty reasonable and has loads of stuff.

Would imagine there are emotional benefits to this as well as physical OP.

Yes absolutely. Add all that time up over a year and its a lot
