I really think you need to unpick what you mean by "National Service" first.

We are a forces family and my sons are all army cadets, with two of them wanting it to be their career. They would love it.

But I will defend to the death the right of a young person not to engage in military activities.

Upper or lower age limit?

ArtesianWater · 20/08/2025 20:55

18 lower, 40 upper. I'm just guessing though.

If you mean the military, their current recruitment processes are shit and until they can effectively move more applicants through in a timely manner, recruiting those who don't want to be there is a waste of time, effort and money.

Military or civilian service? For everyone or only for a certain section of the population ie those whose parents don't have connections. Amanda is Oxbridge material, she is exempt.
18 to maybe 35 but who would fund it and how would it be enforced? A poll on here would show a high percentage of parents would be unwilling to let their children do it.

How long is a piece of string? I wouldn't even think about it - as it won't happen. We couldn't afford it for a start!
